I feel like this could be Peacock’s Severance/Ted Lasso moment, but it really depends on if this can get the word of mouth buzz that those shows did. I’m hoping that the huge viewership of Glass Onion looking for something similar could tip it.
Also random but I would personally put this in Drama, it feels a bit more grounded than the Benoit Blanc films, but I feel like the fact that the characters make jokes occasionally will have it end up in comedy. Curious to see what others think

They have the streaming rights for TAR starting this weekend, which might help get the right audience in, so let’s see.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2023 at 12:17 pm #1205269241I like this a lot, has an enjoyable retro vibe. This is categorically a drama to me and I will despair if this is accepted as a comedy in the vein of The Bear, unless the tone changes drastically past episode 3.

I’m really enjoying how every episode has a rhythm to it, specifically how we first see the murder and then jump backwards in time to see how Charlie is involved. There’s been a few fun moments of random things in the cold open being explained by Charlie’s unseen actions that have been pretty fun (currently referring to the Okja gag, which I hope is obscure enough to not spoil anything).

Ep 3’s good. Really enjoyable show!
Enjoying the show. Am not quite sure if it’ll hit with the “native” Peacock audience so hopefully it can drag people over.
Also, it’s a drama.

January 27, 2023 at 11:06 am #1205270732I stumbled on Poker Face this morning when I went to Peacock to watch TAR. Decided to watch the first episode – I love it. Charlie is the best = Jessica Fletcher with a cosmic old soul vibe, liar detection ability and a young Stevie Nicks hairdo. I can’t wait to see how this show goes.
ReplyCopy URLLife is a thin thread.
We hang on tightly knowing
it will snap one day.January 27, 2023 at 11:10 am #1205270739They have the streaming rights for TAR starting this weekend, which might help get the right audience in, so let’s see.

Even as a fan of her already I was really worried that I would hints of characters she’d played before in Charlie or that it would descend into a Peter Falk caricature but she really made something so fresh and of her own here that really engrossed me.

January 27, 2023 at 12:15 pm #1205270837It’s exciting how many unique characters Hong Chau is creating. Watch her in THE MENU and POKER FACE. the comedic vibe is so different and yet so thorough and lived. An actress who can seemingly play anything. We need to see more. #HongChau #TheMenuMovie pic.twitter.com/WYiRt6Vwic
