January 27, 2023 at 1:54 pm #1205270973The show is really, really good. It reminds me of the 2000’s detective shows mixed up with Coen Brothers.
Lyonne is good as usual. Adrien Brody was also incredible in the pilot.
And this is definitely going Drama. I don’t see the TV Academy letting this one slide in Comedy just because the actress in comedic.

Putting in comedy would honestly be worse than The Bear because it would insulting to the people involved for Peacock to do so. Why do comedic actors have to have shows in comedy whenever they do drama? Can’t they be taken seriously like everyone else?

The Academy should move both shows to Drama and everyone will be happy (I think)
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 28, 2023 at 9:18 am #1205272480Of course freaking Peacock thought the best way to promote an anthology show was releasing 4 episodes at once instead of doing it weekly.
The Night Shift had an amazing atmosphere. Side characters were brilliant in this one.
The Stall was the funniest episode yet.Still need to watch the fourth episode. The show is both a homage and a subversion of classic detective shows starring a genius detective, reminds of Psych with the “supernatural” abilities of the main character.
Cinematography it’s the one nomination I’m sure this show is getting.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 28, 2023 at 5:06 pm #1205272949I wouldn’t begrudge this going comedy. It’s much funnier than The Bear, if that’s the show we’re using as a measuring stick nowadays lol.
I had a blast with the first four episodes, but I am a bit nervous that this might have peaked too early. I thought episodes 3 & 4 were a step down from 1 & 2. Still, Lyonne is a ton of fun in this role and the guest actors have been great for the most part. Adrien Brody and Colton Ryan being the two that were the most memorable.
This would probably be big if it wasn’t on Peacock lol. Oh, well.

If being funnier than The Bear is the metric we’re using to justify whether a show is a comedy then every drama series contender this year should compete in comedy lol.

January 29, 2023 at 1:52 am #1205273226I finished the pilot “Dead Man’s Hand” and this is really really good, not a comedy tho. The only thing that would be an argument for this to be a comedy is Natasha Lyonne’s being the lead and even then, her performance isn’t comedic, she’s fully diving into drama here (at least in the pilot).
It’s more in line with cop procedurals like L&O, The Rookie, Chicago PD, but with a higher budget, and those shows also have jokes here and there, but are not comedies.
Will watch the rest soon but I’m addicted.

January 29, 2023 at 5:20 am #1205273295yeahh after watching the first 4 episodes I really don’t think it’s a comedy, although there are a couple of moments that made me laugh out loud. Peacock also lists it as a drama I’m pretty sure, so hopefully this does go drama! idk how the viewership of the show is, but Natasha Lyonne definitely deserves her flowers for her performance here, she’s SO good.
