Moving forward, the competitions will be organized solely by content genre as opposed to the current method, which separates programs based on program airtime.
So will Daytime Emmys now count toward the EGOT?
ReplyDecember 14, 2021 at 10:07 am #1204655064This makes sense. Soaps aside what is the difference between Primetime and Daytime programming anymore when you can stream them all irrespective of time of broadcast? What’s the difference between something like Down to Earth (which went to the daytime Emmys) and Queer Eye (which went to Primetime) aside from content and quality?

It does indicate it might be easier to place something in drama or comedy regardless of it being 30 minutes or an hour, though, or am I misreading that?
ReplyCopy URLDecember 14, 2021 at 10:47 am #1204655236I quite like the idea of a separate Children and Family ceremony. There’s a chance to make that quite fun and I’ve never been a fan of children’s programming sitting with Daytime.

Trust me Sandra Oh could go to one of the remaining 4 daytime soaps and easily win a Daytime Emmy

Talk shows will be separated by format and style characteristics between the Daytime and Primetime Emmys. Most current daytime talk shows will remain in the Daytime Emmy competition based on them featuring interaction with the audience, including giveaways, as well as segments from other daytime genres, including crafting and cooking. Meanwhile, a daytime talker like The Ellen DeGeneres Show, now in its final season, could relocate to the Primetime Emmys as it resemble late-night talk show with a monologue, celebrity interviews and virtually no traditional daytime segments like cooking.
This is shake up the Primetime Variety Talk categories quiet a bit. Ellen is still clearly liked in the industry (and Academy, see her namecheck Game of Games hosting noms), whilst Kelly Clarkson and Red Table Talk were big winners at Daytime that could cross over.
