The main tittle sequence will definitely get Emmy nomination.
I had no idea that was Alice Englert until someone mentioned it in post. Didn’t recognize her..
Im also surprised at actors that keep popping up that I had no idea were in show like Corey Stolls and Vincent Dinofrio.
on to the show, I Seen two episodes and it just doesn’t work for me. The acting is there but the writing is just not working. It just boring. And for someone that wasn’t a big fan of Hollywood , I find it worse than Hollywood. I can say many things about Hollywood That I didn’t like but one of them wasn’t boring.

Yeah I think it depends on your taste in television. I personally found it more interesting than Hollywood but that may be because the acting wasn’t there in Hollywood for a lot of the cast.
I will say that whilst I wasn’t a big fan of the writing I wouldn’t say I found it boring (personally). More baffling.

September 18, 2020 at 7:22 pm #1203717103I find this show wayyy better than Hollywood. Unlike Hollywood, it’s not trying to be something that it isn’t and it fully embraces its campiness.
I get why people might not like it but I’m finding it great so far.

This.
I also think it’s WAY better than Perry Mason. I mean sure this show is fun but it doesn’t try to take itself to seriously and then fail (which is what Perry Mason did).
Predicting the Drama Globe nominees and the SAG ensemble nominees are going to be a nightmare because outside of The Crown, Killing Eve and Ozark for the former and The Crown, This is Us and Ozark for the latter anything can get those last two slots.

September 18, 2020 at 7:53 pm #1203717136I think the HFPA will enjoy this. Paulson for sure is a thread for the win.

Paulson just became imo win worthy in this episode. She honestly was phenomenal and I have decided to predict Cynthia Nixon too for the Emmys (at least until we find out how the playing field is after the guilds).
The writing continues to be an issue but it was less so today. Whilst I can understand some of the critics’ critiques (the attempt to emulate a Hitchcockean style etc) I think they’ve intensified it a lot (apart from maybe the critique about Alice Englert’s acting) because whilst the writing isn’t brilliant it’s not terrible and the actors range from great to phenomenal.
Grade : A-
MVP : Cynthia NixonI think the HFPA will enjoy this. Paulson for sure is a thread for the win.
She’s definitely getting nominated (she’s literally been nominated for all her non AHS roles thus far including being the sole nominee for Studio 60) and I have a feeling this may sneak into Drama and S. Actress (Stone) because the HFPA love their stars and love Ryan Murphy. Also its HFPA bait.
I don’t think Paulson will win though. I think what we can say for sure is that a Netflix actress (whether Colman, Linney or Paulson) is 90% guaranteed for the win and at the moment I think they’ll give Colman a repeat so she can go 4 for 5 and also because I think The Crown and herself (for both her roles in The Crown and The Father) will be too strong to beat.

I really doubt an early release with bad reviews is gonna get into series. Netflix is likely gonna have other, better recieved projects to push instead.

Well at least Boys in the Band looks good.

The score was excellent.

I agree. The score is so good too. It’s like a Hitchcock movie score.

September 19, 2020 at 12:56 am #1203717315As a writer, I hate that they did not work with Louise Fletcher. What I mean by that is, they did not care about the work she put into the character.
Also, when I watch One Flew Over Cukoo’s Nest, I feel that Nurse Ratched is a “by the book” type of woman, so to hear of her doing everything wrong is not what I would expect. That actually could have been the major plot for the character. Maybe, Nurse Ratched was so by the book, that it villainized her. The rules for mental institutions were horrible back in those days, so she still could be the “villain” of the show.

All of this! As such a huge fan of Fletcher’s performance and the original film, the show has been largely disappointing so far (I’m only an episode in). Like Sarah Paulson is great but it feels like a different character in a different universe. Also Finn Witrock is pretty bad as another user pointed out. I remember enjoying his work on Freak Show, so idk if it’s the writing or the way he was directed or his own interpretation of the character but the whole killing the priests sequence was pretty bad.
