I rarely disagree with show placement at award bodies, but this one is a mixed bag. I don’t even know where I would put it in my personal awards.
My experience with this show is that it’s hard to take it serious. I get that it’s a satire, but I don’t see where it’s going. And I laughed only once during the first season. In comparison, I laugh out loud various times during a single episode of Succession.
But the show’s genre can’t really determined by the fact that you personally didn’t laugh. There were clearly persistent jokes and satire there you just didn’t find them/it funny. If only shows that everyone laughed out loud at were considered comedies then there would be absolutely none in existence.
As for your Succession comparison, it’s all about tone and intention. The Politician’s tone is quite clearly far from serious and it intends to make you laugh throughout. Succession’s tone and intention is the opposite, it just has funny moments in it because they’ve always been a tool in drama to alleviate tension (just as in comedy darker moments are used to hit you in the gut when you don’t really expect it). A good example along this line is Downton Abbey, which is often known for Maggie Smith’s hilarious one liners but no one would argue it wasn’t a drama.

And I will defend Lange all season long, because she was the funniest part of this show IMO. Episode 7 is such a perfect comedic submission. That dance, lol. But I love downright crazy people, so maybe that’s why. Also Zoey Deutch is not getting enough credit IMO.

I also liked her performance a lot. She definitely needed more screen time. She was one of the hidden gems in this show! I hope writers acknowledge that and give more scenes with her for S2.

She was good, and she’s stunning, but she just wasn’t given great material. She is a really great young actress though. She was amazing in Sing Street. She deserves a big break out movie role.

I thought the Munchausen stuff was a little bit too grim for me to get along with the dark comedy tone, it just made me feel sad.

Loved her character’s attitude.

I find her utterly obnoxious and her voice profoundly grating.
Lol I’ve watched a bunch of her interviews and she literally never claimed that but okay!

Is Gwyneth a lead or supporting actress?

She is clearly a supporting actress. It would be the biggest fraud to submit her as a lead. Why are you reporting this post? (optional):Not now
