but considering how Foy went on to win the Emmy for season 2 of The Crown and Oh was going to win the Emmy for Killing Eve until Jodie Comer grabbed the buzz

Its shocking that Moss lost the sag despite coming from an Emmy win and a winter sweep. Honestly what does she have to do to get a freaking sag at this point!

While we are on the Ted Lasso subject, does Waddingham pose a threat to Smart or does Smart has it locked?

I do see a possibility where Ted Lasso does sweep (and Waddingham wins a bit like how Tony Shalhoub managed to win over Bill Hader) but at the end of the day Smart is a beloved veteran with a performance that attracts a lot of passion in a show that was strong enough to win both writing and directing over Ted Lasso. The visibility from Mare can only help as well.

I am actually currently writing about Moss’ chances at SAG, and yes, her 2018 loss is absolutely shocking, but only at the time rather than in retrospect, given that Foy also went on to beat her at the Emmys. From what we were able to gather before the 2018 ceremony, Moss was the unquestionable frontrunner — just check our odds from that year and you will see. She had swept every award for season 1 of THT, which was a cultural phenomenon and almost guaranteed an ensemble win in our minds. It losing during the peak of its acclaim is somewhat inexcusable. You can argue that its succeeding losses, both in ensemble and actress, were merely a result of bad luck, but I’m starting to believe it’s because it’s not just actors voting for these awards. This show is obvs beloved by actors — it’s received 27 acting noms and 6 wins at the Emmys for a reason — so there should be no reason why that love wouldn’t translate at the guild. The problem is AFTRA, which has obviously gravitated toward shows like This Is Us, The Crown, Stranger Things, etc. — perhaps “more accessible shows” is the umbrella term I am looking for here, IDK. Then again, we have no proof for this. For all we know Moss could pull off a miracle this year and win because the stars aligned for her, meaning everything I just said would have to be thrown out of the window. But regardless, her and the ensemble’s losses in 2018 were absolutely shocking at the same, if only then since in hindsight they arguably all make sense.

I think hindsight of Foy going onto win the Emmy as well tells us that Moss probably just lost because people thought Foy in season 2 was better and wanted to award her in their last opportunity.

Which proves again that SAG voters don’t know statistics and vote by passion, hence don’t have any problem with repeat winners. We should have understood then only that Foy will win the Emmy.

This is partly why I do think she can win this year (although if The White Lotus goes drama I guess Coolidge is probably looking strong). Almost a bit like an Emily Blunt type win.

Dinklage finally won after years too, and SAG never awarded the GoT ensemble. Maybe she just needs the right people to fall out of the race.

Exactly but most of foolishly assumed it had just been a SAG thing

You may be right but the thing is that this isn’t the Handmaid’s final season. If it was the final season, the narrative would have been huge and well-known to voters,Moss would have been the frontrunner and we wouldn’t have been having this conversation.

Yeah. Defeating Elisabeth “undeniable” Moss when her odds at Gold Derby were 1/10 (Foy’s odds were 25/1 in comparison) was HUGE. It’s like this year. If anyone defeats Kate “undeniable” Winslet, it’d be MASSIVE and we’d be foolish not to predict the person to win the Emmy.

A really good point. Of course, as mentioned, GOT had the final-season narrative, which THT/Moss does not have, but it’s absolutely true that sometimes the stars just have to align for you.
