Do you know of any limited series contenders that are widely seen (outside of Mare of Easttown) and discussed in your circles?

How well do you think Mare of Easttown could do?

Hi Joe! Can you comment on the Goldderby prediction odds for SAG TV nominations? What are some of the shows or performers you, as a longtime member of the guild, believe are being underestimated? Do you think there’s scope this year for some unexpected nominees à la Bill Camp last year?

Apologies in advance for a barrage of questions, it’s just that this is all very exciting!

Unfortunately the old one got deleted. Mare of Eastown can win both

Kate Winslet will win no matter what. For people who loved Mare, she’s the reason. For those who liked it,she’s the best part and for those who found the show okay, she’s the savior. What a performance. She has shown why she’s one of the best today. I will vote for her. She is going to win every single industry award for it. Everyone in the industry seems to be rallying around her.

Other than her,I think Julianne will definitely get nominated. Most people completed the show and watched the last episode where she went toe to toe with Kate Winslet. I would be shocked of she misses out. I wouldn’t put it beside the nomination group to nominate Jean. Among males, Evan Peters will get nominated. He’s usually in Ryan’s stuff but this was a pleasant change from him. He is helped because most of his scenes are with Kate Winslet,so people will remember him. If anyone else is nominated I think it’ll be guy pearce if voters just nominate everything about the show. Evan is likely to win because the show is so strong but he may lose. I might add that he’s kind of an icon among younger voters.

I’ll have to check it first. Okay I’ll see the prediction odds (I believe it’s in a heading called Latest Odds) and get back to you soon.

We love to hear it. Kate Winslet absolutely smashed that role. Thank you for this Q&A session! 🙏

Feel free to ask me anything of the guild.

Hi, Joe! Is there talk of Issa Rae finally getting a SAG nom? I’m wondering if this being Insecure’s last season helps her chances at all.

    Thanks so much!

    The White Lotus.

Do you think any of the female actors on the show outside of Coolidge can get nominated?

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

    The White Lotus.

Has it been just centralised on Coolidge and Bartlett? Or has some of the other cast members getting discussed?

    Oscars FYC:

"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories

"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature

“The Green Knight” – in all categories

I’m rooting for Squid Game cos I really like it but I am very conscious that the internet can sometimes skew perception of where the hype is concentrated.

Can’t imagine how anyone could think the internet is skewing the hype in this case. Squid Game is quite obviously a global phenomenon and the numbers alone are proof of that.

If enough people on the nominating group watch it then yes. I wouldn’t bet on it but it can happen. But even if she gets nominated, she’ll lose to Jean.

Regarding both these questions, the love for The White Lotus is mainly for its ensemble. Every individual prefers different perfomers. The show can either be too popular among the nominating group that they nominate more than just Jennifer (it helps that her netflix film is out now) and also Connie and others but on the other hand, the satire kind of nature of the show can be off putting and it may split it’s votes to get no one in. Depends if the nominating group is your fan or not. The fact that most people have watched the show helps.

    Hi Joe,

Can you tell what the status is for Maid? And if Nicole Kidman (Being The Ricardos) and Jessica Chastain (The Eyes Of Tammy Faye) having movies this year helps them to get in for their series Nine Perfect Strangers and Scenes From A Marriage.

    Really loving this insight.

I don’t dispute Squid Game’s overall numbers are incredible, I’m simply saying the show skews young, and social media can often amplify people’s perception that a show is similarly ubiquitous among all age groups.

The internet skews hype for many things that skew young, not just Squid Game.

I did not watch Maid so I can’t really say anything about it. I certainly hope to see it once I am over with a few films.

The nominating group is a complex entity. All depends on their tastes. But it certainly helps to have two movies or a movie and show in consideration as long as you are not playing the same version in both. Eg,a voter watches Tammy Faye and loved Jessica. So he’ll likely go to watch her other project too. That’s how double nominations happen.

Very tempted to slot in Kieran Culkin after this week’s episode of Succession. With voting just starting he’s peaking at the right time and if the nominating committee do go all out for Succession and nominate Snook and Cox too, is there much stopping a former child actor who has been in films SAG member have nominated and/or are familiar with from getting nominated?

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.
