I can see Shalhoub missing because they have sometimes randomly dropped people after they’ve won and he feels like someone who could have been around 3rd during nominations here in his strongest year but I agree that it’s hard to see the show just suddenly drop off so much like that. Not only did it pull off a near sweep against FLEABAG the last time it was eligible but I feel like the actors really like their period pieces (which is probably why The Crown and Downton Abbey have performed so well with the guild even when they haven’t with the Emmys) and there’s just a lot of goodwill behind the ensemble. There’s probably a reason it got more above the line acting nominations than Hacks and just as many as Barry at the Emmys this year in spite of being a weaker contender overall than both.
Good point about Shalhoub. I’m definitely more confident in Maisel ensemble than him individually, but I was double checking that he won for s3 as well and damn SAG just really loves him. 7 nominations for Monk too and it looks like they only skipped him in 2005. I’ll probably be boring and keep him in lol.

I definitely think he should be ahead of Henry Winkler in the odds. If they didn’t nominate Winkler for season 2 of Barry (which won both WGA and DGA and was the Emmy runner up) over Andrew Scott who wasn’t even nominated for the Emmy then why would they nominate him now when Barry was probably 3rd at best at the Emmys and sadly not even Hader won this year?
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

FYC: Only Murders in the Building and The Handmaid’s Tale in all categories including Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Elisabeth Moss, and Yvonne Strahovski.

They are shopping to networks but receiving a lot of nos apparently, i don’t know why TBS/TNT dropped, it wasn’t that much of a ratings failure.
FYC:
The HBO darlings everywhere (The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, Perry Mason, Somebody Somewhere, White House Plumbers, Love & Death);
The Apple gang (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird);
Poker Face, The Great, The Bear, Evil (especially Katja Herbers) and The Good Fight.Please! These gays, they're trying to murder me!

Yup, I don’t see Winkler making a comeback here over Shalhoub potentially keeping a nomination. As much as the hype for Maisel has cooled off, I think actors have a lot more love for it than they do for Barry (for all the reasons you mentioned before like it being a period piece etc.), and it’s just numbers-wise a more popular show. I know Barry was getting the GoT bump in s2, but that s3 ratings drop is still significant.

I think it was part of Warner Bros Discovery tightening up their wallet. I’m not totally worried – it will end up somewhere. Seems foolish to write it off considering the number of potential stars and blockbusters this year.

She’s way too iconic for SAG I’m afraid

I think I would pass out, what an iconic lineup. I think my fifth choice would be Atlanta, I think the core four is incredibly strong and any side characters or one off appearances also always knock it out of the park

I hope so, i love Severance more than S2 of TWL but honestly, the ensemble of the latter is strong and everybody works, it’s a rare kind of ensemble, and they nailed two casts in a row now.
Also love some performances of Crown but not as a whole like say s4 or 2.But going back, can I ask why you are moving it to 1? If you don’t mind me asking.

November 28, 2022 at 3:32 pm #1205169456Yeah, for best drama I would pick Saul or Severance, but for Ensemble I’m really between Yellowjackets and The White Lotus. Purely in terms of predictions I think The White Lotus is more likely to win, but they both have such a strong group of actors (I rank Yellowjackets highly just because so many of the characters have two actors playing them and I think it makes the ensemble so strong, the way the young and old actors complement each other)
