McKinnon and Bryant going are major losses. It was a rough stretch of episodes when McKinnon was filming in Australia. Rebuilding time for sure.

Praying that Mikey and Melissa follow suit. Cecily too, although she would be missed.

Bill Hader and Barry in everything (2 babka)
The Great - Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and comedy writing and directing

Severance in drama series, writing, Adam Scott for best actor, Ben Stiller for drama directing, and the whole cast in supporting.

Bryant could possibly take her absence to a nomination, and McKinnon definitely will. I do wonder if Davidson could though. I know most people here hate him as a performer, but he’s still undoubtedly one of SNL’s biggest stars among the current cast, and he’s been in the tabloids throughout the season (if not always for the best reasons). He’ll probably get nominated for that new series with Edie Falco instead, though.

Despite all that, I’m definitely going to miss Mooney the most. Even though he pretty much gained his own cult following for his SNL work, I don’t think he ever really got the recognition he deserved either for writing or acting, especially from the TV Academy. If anyone on the SNL cast deserves his own show, it’s him.

Next season should be Cecily’s last season. She’s a magnificent character actress and with this exodus of veteran cast members and the decline of the series’ writing, I’m hoping an exit this time next year will bring forth fresher avenues for her to use her comedic talents to the fullest and best extent. I’ll miss her and I ultimately support actors doing whatever they’re most passionate about so if that’s SNL, that’s perfectly fine, but her work outside of SNL has always been continuous proof that I think she’s capable of even more and I’m hoping we’ll get to see that in other shows and movies.

That was kind of an underwhelming finale. It was a mistake to reprise Aidy and Kate’s old lady characters and stuck Kyle in there instead of going for the full throated sentimentality featuring the four departing players. At least Japanese Breakfast was a good musical guest.

McKinnon and Bryant are definitely getting nominated for this season.

I’m mixed on that. Like I mentioned with Mooney, Strong’s definitely got a passionate fanbase but never seemed to break out the way McKinnon did. At the same time though, unlike Mooney, Strong got a lot of recognition for her SNL work from awards bodies. The problem is, I can’t name anything she did outside of SNL off the top of my head, and I feel if she were to leave now she’d end up like Leslie Jones: beloved for her SNL work but never able to build something off of that. I do hope that isn’t the case; she and McKinnon are the closest things the current SNL troupe has to a Wiig or a Poehler, but I’m not seeing everyone jump at her feet the way they are McKinnon (or even Bryant with her new show).

Officially obsessed with Natasha Lyonne and whoever her stylist is.

Great monologue (managed to keep my attention despite that black bodysuit 🥵) and the baseball sketch was really good despite Mikey “say the exact premise of the sketch but make it annoyed” Day.
