How about Kathryn Hahn? She’ll likely be on the back of an Emmy win and she’s got The Shrink Next Door coming out on AppleTV+ in November.

I absolutely +1 this.

FYC: "What We Do in the Shadows" and "Severance" in everything, Natasha Rothwell ("Insecure"), Sophie Thatcher ("Yellowjackets"), Renee Elise Goldsberry ("Girls5eva"), James Caverly, ("Only Murders in the Building")

A wildcard for the Christmas former host slot – Molly Shannon??

That would be awesome

If Lorne really wants Biles on bad enough, he’ll make that happen. I think the past controversy with Che could be worked out in some fashion. If anything, Biles would have her big moment in the opening monologue or in “Weekend Update” to address and respond to her critics, including Che. This article sums up the crossroads that “SNL” is currently facing with Che nicely:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/variety.com/2021/tv/columns/michael-che-simone-biles-snl-1235031600/amp/

Good grief, I mean really? What a load of overblown hysteria that article is. No one could ever mistake me for anything other than a raging feminist and I’m the last person to defend shitty men, but god I’m sick of the hypersensitive social policing going on right now. Everyone is so sanctimonious. That article simultaneously says SNL is too bland and inoffensive but also Che (and Colin!) is too much and pushes too many boundaries. Meanwhile completely misunderstanding and misrepresenting Che’s humour, Weekend Update (consistently the best and most watched part of the show) and even the hugely popular joke swap. As for the “now deleted posts” and claims of being hacked, that’s literally his gimmick. He always deletes his posts (not an admission of guilt about Biles whatsoever) within minutes and the hacking claim was an obvious joke.

And why do American publications persist in using quotation marks around names of TV shows? Drives me crazy. Yeah I got my angry pants on today.

Bill Hader and Barry in everything (2 babka)
The Great - Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and comedy writing and directing

Severance in drama series, writing, Adam Scott for best actor, Ben Stiller for drama directing, and the whole cast in supporting.

SNL, if you’re reading this (ha!), please get Kathryn on speed dial. She’s be a great host.

Mainly b/c it’s simpler shorthand than italics.

The article’s best point was that “SNL” is at a crossroads between its aims. Does it want to be a one-size-fits-all brand of harmless inoffensiveness, or does it actually want to say something and offend half of the audience in the process? Che’s offscreen antics are tiresome, and so is he. As popular as “Weekend Update” is virally, I’d be fine with a refresh in co-hosts moving forward.

You’re definitely trying to push my buttons with quotations around Weekend Update, surely. If not, I can only say that the styling with quotation marks make it no easier to comprehend what SNL, or anything else, is when written on paper. They are redundant.

From Lorne Michaels in the Emmy press room…

The hosts/musical guests for the first four shows will be announced this week. Jason Sudeikis will be one of them.

Internet rumors have Rami Malek as an October host. Also rumored that Ariana Grande will be hosting soon.

He would not confirm which cast members are returning but also said there will be some new cast members announced this week.

I’d love to see Molly Shannon and Ellen DeGenerous host at some point.

This makes sense, she’s been an underrated excellent host in the past and is currently on The Voice.

Assuming she’ll just be hosting and not that musical guest since she’s in between eras right now.

We must be seeing some departures surely if there’s new cast. There were 20 main cast last year.

If Ariana is hosting, then maybe Pete is off. Cecily on IG on her most recent IG post said it was an honour “to have worked with” Kenan, so potentially at least one of these. And I think Kate is still filming the Joe Exotic show in Australia (I’m assuming this is why she wasn’t at the Emmys).

Likely. It is close to impossible to get people out and back in to Australia and/or New Zealand in any reasonable period at this stage.

Um, was not expecting to see Kim’s name here.

I would have been game for a Kacey Musgraves double duty.

Am I completely out of the loop? Does Malek have anything to promote? (not saying he has to, just curious or wondering if I’ve forgotten something)

I’m fairly sure he’s the villain in the new Bond, so I’m guessing that’s what he’s promoting. I for sure thought we’d see Zendaya here promoting Dune in Oct.
