Another limited series of Schrodinger. Slow Horses will debut April 1, on Apple TV+
No one confirmed if it’s a Limited Series or an ongoing series, but they’re calling it a “six episodes drama”. I assume it’s a Limited Series, since it’s based on a book, by Mick Herron
Starring: Gary Oldman; Olivia Cooke; Jonathan Pryce; Kristin Scott Thomas; Jack Lowden

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2022 at 7:12 am #1204773617It’s Drama. They filmed two seasons: https://deadline.com/2020/12/apple-slow-horses-olivia-cooke-jonathan-pryce-gary-oldman-two-seasons-1234655860/
What a cast. Jonathan Pryce and Olivia Cooke could be in the spotlight even before The Crown and House of the Dragon.

Top secret meets bottom of the barrel. Watch Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb and his team of demoted MI5 screw-ups when #SlowHorses premieres April 1 on Apple TV+ https://t.co/Pip2yp9RTP pic.twitter.com/DZQRbJ72z7

Very Oldman focused.
I wonder if this errs more towards BAFTA than Emmys broadly? It looks great but I’m not sure if it’s a bit “too British” for the TV Academy’s tastes

Please ITV can’t afford this cast.
It looks very British TV

Opening credit only had Oldman, Lowden and Kristen Scott Thomas.
ReplyCopy URLApril 2, 2022 at 4:15 pm #1204894694The first two episodes were entertaining although I did get the impression like I’ve seen this show before during both of them. I can see why American television critics got excited about this show’s tone but I could list a dozen or so shows I’ve seen in the past five years about spooks or some sort of government service with socio-politically relevant subtexts and a caustic Malcolm Tucker-esque boss. That being said I do appreciate the lens this show seems to be looking into how matters of security are interpreted in the public eye and the racial profiling and stereotyping that comes with it and I do take my hat off to the writers for the twist at the end of the first episode and the subsequent change in tone in the second. I actually was taken quite a bit by the direction on these two episodes. I like the old style feel of it especially during that chase of the journalist by Lowden’s character in the second episode.
I didn’t really think much of the performances. Lowden was fine and Cooke and Pryce were under-used (although I assume we’ll see more of the latter as the season progresses). Gary Oldman seems to be having fun in this role and it is delightful seeing him playing such a snarky character with such strange and distinctive garbles even if it isn’t too much of a stretch of a role for him.

April 10, 2022 at 2:33 pm #1204911503Just got caught up on this one. Very good indeed!! Definitely in for the season. Apple TV is having a run right now.
April 10, 2022 at 4:16 pm #1204911691It’s like a worse ‘spooks’ so far. Into it but not a masterpiece.
