As a big Will and Grace fan I was surprised by how much I totally didn’t see why Leslie Jordan would get nominated. Then Charlie pointed it out and I was like oh yeahhhh.

Oh yeah, the slugfest in which I lose my voice halfway through and my eyes begin to water for no reason, lol. Enjoy!

I think you should really update your limited series video. None of the spring shows were out and Fargo and The Undoing were still eligible.

Our last limited series slugfest was the beginning of May, so we already accounted for all that. I’m sure we’ll update soon though anyway.

I just watched the last slugfest about supporting in drama, it was very entertaining. Since my predictions are much more similar to Luca’s, I want to ask Riley two questions:

    1. Why do you think that no woman from THT will be able to enter, but Bradley Whitford will do it?
    2. You have predicted the snub of Ventimiglia for Strong and Cox, you are also not predicting Mandy Moore, so why do you think that Chris Sullivan will be able to hold on versus Culkin and Macfadyen? It seems very inconsistent to me.

This was the much anticipated slugfest in which I explained my rationale for predicting Nicholas Braun—over Matthew Macfadyen and Kieran Culkin!  My predictions are more inconsistent than they were.  I just do not know how to account for Succession, but regardless of how I account for it, there is something to be said for inertia in supporting actor particularly.

Although I have really come around on its series chances, The Handmaid’s Tale still dropped significantly at the guilds, released forever ago and is coming off of its weakest season, so it should not necessarily be given the benefit of the doubt, as I said in the slugfest.  Yvonne Strahovski does seem to have overtaken Ann Dowd, but I thought that she was best of the show’s supporting actresses even in the first season.  That Dowd got in over her back then is not that significant and is analogous to how I also preferred Jodie Comer in the first season of Killing Eve, but that they also nominated Samira Wiley might demonstrate more than usual resistance to her, so that concerns me some.  Another thing is that Strahovski and Dowd were just in the show less.  I would say that people generally preferred Stahovski’s work in the second season and Dowd is obviously not winning again like she did for the first.  Bradley Whitford on the other hand was very present in the third season, with June living in Lawrence’s household and he has a less competitive category.  He does not have to face multiple Ozark contenders or hopefully anyone from Big Little Lies.

Thank you for replying, I understand your logic better now. It is true that the inertia in supporting actor for drama is very random and unpredictable. Every year we are shocked by at least two nominees, so who knows what will they do this year when this category is actually very competitive, we could even filled it with previous 8 nominees from the last 4 years that are all eligible: Banks, Harbour, Patinkin, Wright, Fiennes, Esposito, Voight and Sullivan.

It was a shame watching the comedy supporting slugfest after the new rule news as so much of it now feels redundant. That said, it was fun having the dramatic irony of seeing you guys talk about how Supporting Actress has such an obvious top 8. Little did you know…
