Hey, I was going through the nominations and counting Guest nominees, noticed “SNL” getting 11 acting nominations, and I wanted to know if that’s the most a single series has had. It’s not, “The West Wing” had 12 one year, which I think is the record, but I didn’t look through it that thoroughly and I also didn’t go through miniseries/tv movies, so doesn’t anybody know the most acting nominees in a season record and if “SNL” now holds it in the Comedy category?

According to Wikipedia The West Wing had 12 one year and of course there’s Roots with 13.

30 Rock season 3 received 10 acting nominations which is the highest I can think of for a comedy.

SNL might technically be higher but to me there’s an asterisk next to it because it has way more guest options than a normal series and probably shouldn’t even be eligible in the same categories.

I really think the Academy should consider adding a Variety Performance category, which would include SNL members, but also hosts.

I also think it would be better if the guest categories had juries or panels to avoid name-checks like Cheadle this year or the notorious Martindale a few years ago.

I completely agree with this. And since guest performances have to submit a ‘tape’ for the ballot, they could just use a tape system and a panel would shortlist them or something, before putting them ‘availabe’ on the ballot. It would make the category much better and more interesting.

so much filler… between SNL filling up supporting and guest and then Hamilton filling up supporting in Limited… Drama is the only one where they couldn’t pull some clownery to fill up the categories. (and yet they still just filled them up with as few shows as possible lol)

For the first time in a long time, the Oscars had better nominations than the Emmys.

In my opinion, these lead acting nominations are complete fillers and name-checkings: Kenan Thompson, William H. Macy, Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Allison Janney, Aidy Bryant, Uzo Aduba, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr. and Lin-Manuel Miranda. VOTERS ARE SIMPLY NOT WATCHING TELEVISION.

True. Also ironic that the TELEVISION ACADEMY doesn’t watch television. Pure comedy like shouldn’t those be people who have time and actually want to watch TV shows once in a while? lol

I think they should just do the same thing they do with categories like Stunt Coordination and Cinematography. Guest contenders would submit a tape and a jury would shortlist them for the ballot. Say around 15-20 actors per category? Voters clearly don’t give a f*uck about these categories and every year we get lazy name checks and 1 minute cameos.

SNL receiving more acting nominations than shows like The CrownThe Handmaid’s Tale and Mare of Easttown is horrifying.

FYC: Better Call Saul and The Good Fight in all categories including Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
