What performances that were snubbed in Emmy nominated shows that got nominated for other members of its ensemble do you think should have been nominated?

Gavin MacLeod – The Mary Tyler Moore ShowThese 2 were the only members of their stellar ensembles never to be nominated.
ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2020 at 5:01 pm #1203490632I was actually considering starting a thread like this.
A big one is Vincent Kartheiser in Mad Men, the only one of the series long core cast members to never be nominated.
But the one that really takes the cake is Gavin MacLeod in The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I actually commented about this earlier today in a different thread, but what makes MacLeod stand out so much as the ultimate example is, not only is he the only main cast member to never be nominated, but with the exception of the once nominated Georgia Engel, MacLeod is the only member of the cast to never win an Emmy. And it’s even worse when you look at just how well the other actors did with wins. Mary Tyler Moore, Ed Asner, and Valerie Harper won three times, and Ted Knight, Chloris Leachman (one in Supporting and one in Guest), and Betty White won twice. As I mentioned in the other thread, MacLeod’s lack of awards attention was not lost on the show, as they had an entire episode about how his character has never won an award for his work on the news channel while everyone else has. However, MacLeod was nominated for two Golden Globes during the run, so he wasn’t entirely unappreciated by the awards bodies.

I had forgotten about Kartheiser. I actually remembered MacLeod from your post 🙂

This was so frustrating because she had multiple Emmy-win worthy tapes in season 4, but Fox messed up the the submissions badly
• Melissa Benoist as Marley Rose
• Patty Duke as Jan
• Kate Hudson as Cassandra July
• Dot-Marie Jones as Shannon Beiste
• NeNe Leakes as Coach Roz
• Sarah Jessica Parker as Isabelle Wright
• Lauren Potter as Becky JacksonBenoist was the lead, Duke had no business being here and not going to take Leakes seriously no matter how good she was.
It should’ve just been Hudson, Jones & SJP on the ballot (Potter had school shooting episode so I can understand her being there). If it was just the three of them, it wouldn’t have been impossible to get all three of them nominated.

Gavin MacLeod from Mary Tyler Moore. This had to really sting because Mary Tyler Moore, Ed Asner, Ted Knight, Betty White, Valerie Harper, and Cloris Leachman were all nominated and won. Georgia Engel was also nominated.
L.A. Law – Harry Hamlin never got nominated and several castmates were nominated such as Corbin Bernsen, Susan Dey, Jill Eikenberry, Michael Tucker, Alan Rachins, Diana Mauldaur, Conchatta Ferrell with wins by Jimmy Smith, Michael Dysart and two time winner Larry Drake
I also thought of Newhart’s Mary Frann. Bob Newhart, Julia Duffy, Tom Poston and Peter Scolari were all nominated and Mary Frann never received a nomination.
Frasier’s Peri Gilpin never received a nomination – Kelsey Grammar and David Hyde Pierce won 4 times each, Jane Levy and John Mahoney received nominations

ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2020 at 6:25 pm #1203490735There are so many but in terms of a show where literally everyone or almost everyone was nominated except for one, it was have to go to Courteney Cox.
ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2020 at 7:00 pm #1203490751Jared Harris for the first season of The Crown – not only should he have been nominated, he should of won even in supporting. John Lithgow was great, and he was third in my lineup, but Harris was just magnificent in the one and a half episodes that focused on him, and his little bits in episodes 3 and 5 (and 10 to a lesser degree).
Corey Stoll for the first season of House Of Cards – while the show’s quality declined after season 2 (save for season 4 which was pretty good) those first two seasons were great, and it was actually the show that got me into “prestige tv”. Stoll was the emotional heart of season one (especially for a show that was usually more focused on shocks and thrills than genuine emotion). I remember I was binging the season but I actually had to take a break after chapter 11 because I was so overwhelmed by what just happened.
Dean Norris for seasons 3, 4, and 5 part two of Breaking Bad – Hanks journey from stereotypical macho tough guy cop who makes inappropriate jokes to man injured physically and emotionally to seriously skilled detective was one of the few aspects of Breaking Bad that’s not talked about as much unfortunately. It’s a great character arc and Norris played it wonderfully, hopefully the academy makes up for it with a guest nomination for BCS.ReplyCopy URLFYC: All things Succession, particularly Kieran Culkin
