Plot: Kansas native Sam (Bridget Everett) feels out of place in her hometown but singing helps her discover a community with a group of outsiders in this comedy inspired by Everett’s own life.

Rated 87 with 11 reviews on Metacritic. Premiering today on HBO after the new episode of The Righteous Gemstones. It looks like that kind of human show that I will love.
ReplyApril 16, 2022 at 3:12 am #1204918705Honestly cannot remember the last time I watched a whole season of television in one sitting in one evening but here I am! In a sense perhaps this being a 7 episodes x 22 mins comedy makes it a somewhat easier watch (it has the equivalent duration of a 2 and a half hour film) but even then I don’t think I would have watched it so quickly if I wasn’t so gripped by the character building and Bridgett Everett’s revelatory central performance. This honestly felt much more like going through an experience than watching a television show.

June 14, 2022 at 2:25 pm #1204983515I’m glad to see some people catching up on it on here as I felt like I was shouting into a void about it both online and irl haha! As I said in my original post it was a truly cathartic experience and it’s the type of show that really touches you personally? My life is obviously not at the whims of a television show but watching this made me want to reflect on some inter-personal conflict I’ve dealt with and in a way still deal with in my every day.
If my two posts about it hasn’t already suggested it, I highly recommend it! It’s probably the best show I’ve seen during this past television cycle and Everett and Hiller are really delightful presences to follow on screen.

Actually, the 10:00 PM slot is free.
March 8, 2023 at 8:33 am #1205338237I was watching like an EP per day or even on alternate days because I didn’t want season 1 to end, I fell in love with this show and it’s characters, it’s probably the best world building I’ve seen in a long time and I could watch it forever (just saw the finale minutes ago and I’m so happy this show exists).
Bridget Everett deserved a nom for it, but so did the show and it’s supporting characters and writing. I hope s2 is just as good and can be recognized somewhere.ReplyCopy URLHe lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see.
