I mostly agree with you here but I’d almost put Production Design on lock (sight unseen of anything new). I’ve heard so many people praise it and it’s almost iconography for the series.
I feel quite confident here in crafts and program, which are obvious from the start, but less so in acting, I think esp. if its’ renewed most performers are disadvantaged by not returning, but also because I think they’re very good but very even and it’s often the case in an even ensemble that they pick no-one (thus SAG ensemble would be great).
If I were to pick an acting nom it has to be Lee Jung-Jae for me, I think he’s really terrific in the pilot and will be advantaged by that because there’s bound to be some drop off by people who think it’s too violent, and I kind of feel like he’s the “face” of the show.October 23, 2021 at 10:35 am #1204534292

I don’t think this show is worthy of a single nomination lol. Most formulaic, predictable and badly acted show I’ve seen in a while.October 24, 2021 at 10:57 am #1204536384
I think they should submit the following:
- Red Light, Green Light
- (Stick to the Team, if they’re feeling ambitious)
- Red Light, Green Light
- (One Lucky Day, if they’re feeling ambitious)

Some great performances here with a note-worthy central performance in particular from Lee Jung-jae. The crafts are exquisite and if I was to give this show a rating out of 10 it would probably be between 7.5 and 8. I don’t think I was as hyped about it as the rest of the world seems to be but I can understand the hype.
The finale was a bit of a letdown however. It wasn’t bad by any means (there’s been worse this year) but that whole twist with Il-nam being behind the game felt so forced and unnecessary.

I agree about the final episode sadly being a bit of a let down.
But I just found the whole dissection of social and economic inequality to be so incredibly well done. And i never found it preachy or “woke” which is something it could have been in less skilled/American hands. What a much needed and timely message presented in a very East Asian way, but with relevance for us all. (Surely the American version will follow.)November 28, 2021 at 2:16 pm #1204611035

I think it’s a bit prone to hyperbole and stans, the average age of viewers is really young. I suspect awards voters will be a little bit closer to the IMDB/critic’s average score (which at the moment are both at 8.1). I think Jung-Jae is the clear standout. I agree with String Cheese Theory I think this struck a chord that an American production couldn’t.November 29, 2021 at 4:52 pm #1204613460

Also his boarding off the flight was strange as one of the principal reasons Gi-Hun entered the contest in the first place was his desire to be a good dad to his daughter and to disappoint her daughter (by not going to visit her) was a letdown to me. Also I didn’t like the way they wrapped the plot of why Hwang Jun-Ho (detective-police)’s brother became the Front Man.November 29, 2021 at 6:22 pm #1204613719
