- Abbott ElementaryJuly 2, 2022 at 10:34 am #1205002262Series best performances from Matarazzo, McLaughlin, & Sink in these final episodes. I’m extremely impressed with them. For me, Season 4’s MVP was definitely Sink.
I know he’s nowhere near a nomination, but I always think Matarazzo is so consistent. I don’t necessarily think he’ll be a superstar but I can see him easily transitioning in to a go-to supporting guy post Stranger Things.

I also liked Volume 2 much better. The highlight is obviously the amazing performances by the kids. Max, Lucas, Dustin and El carried. I was so happy to see Mclaughlin finally get a scene to show off his acting chops.
The only meh thing was Vecna “creating” the mind flayer and giving it a consciousness. It kinda ruined the whole creepy, horror thing associated with an ancient, primordial, otherworldly being. I was hoping so hard MF was the boss villain but oh well.
Based on the ending, I’m extremely excited to see Will take center stage again in season 5. He carried season 1 and 2 and the show started with him so it’s only poetic to end it with him.

All the Emmys? Does she do anything for the show besides be a supporting actress? Producer, cinematographer, choreographer?

Big TimeJuly 2, 2022 at 5:29 pm #1205002442Not a big fan of this season, there was no reason to all the episode having more than 1 hour, a writting and editing issue wich is a shame because it had incredble things all over the episodes suffocated by not so interesting other things.
But I am a fan of Stranger Things, one thing that I realize after loving Season 3 and crying so much watching this one. After watching episode 4 and the finale I was emotional exausted. It’s such a great group of characters that even the ones I thought I didn’t care (like the death in the last one) made me sad.
Didn’t care for episode 8 but the finale was epic (that would had be even better if it was a 90 minutes episode). Well it was a huge season and they are still peaking the popularity. Can’t wait for the final season, the last scenes of the finale create an enormeous hype for me.

ReplyCopy URLJuly 3, 2022 at 12:19 pm #1205002919Every season introduces a brand new character specifically written to be a fan favorite who tragically dies by the end of it.
The thing is, the character in question is really the only time they’ve done it since Bob. Barb and Alexei are their own thing: they’re characters who were always written to die that essentially became memes because of their unfortunate circumstances. Bob and the character were a main cast member and the season’s focal point respectively, so they had more stake in the plot and thus their deaths genuinely came out of nowhere (also they both make heroic sacrifices rather than just being straight-up murdered out of the blue like Barb and Alexei).
ReplyCopy URLJuly 3, 2022 at 1:02 pm #1205002934Regarding Volume 2’s chances next season… I think they’re incredibly slim. Considering it’s only two episodes released at the beginning of the 2022-23 season, it’s not going to have anywhere near the amount of staying power as any of the previous seasons despite how much people like it. Like Season 3 it’ll probably only get several technical nominations, but unlike Season 3, it will absolutely miss Drama Series.
Series best performances from Matarazzo, McLaughlin, & Sink in these final episodes. I’m extremely impressed with them. For me, Season 4’s MVP was definitely Sink.
- Season 1: Brown / Ryder
- Season 2: Schnapp
- Season 3: Brown / Montgomery
- Season 4: Sink
This brings up an interesting point. I’ll probably make a whole thread on this, but does anyone else notice that with these big ensemble shows in both comedy and drama, the Emmys always seem to pick a character(s) and then nominate them and only them for the majority of the remainder of the show, which consequently makes it extremely hard for other cast members to break into the race even when they have better material in a given season? In the case of Stranger Things, of course I’m referring to Harbour and Brown. I can see why they nominate Brown frequently; Eleven is a key to the show’s success, and she’s almost always given the best material out of the younger cast members. But Hopper? I mean, Harbour’s good, but Hopper kind of got progressively less likable as the seasons go on, and while he’s more sympathetic this time around, the story built around him in Season 4 is universally seen as one of the weak links. He shouldn’t even have been nominated for Season 2; Will was far more of a focus <span style=”-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>overall and Schnapp made way more use of his material than Harbour ever did. And while Season 3 botched its chances by releasing early in the awards season, I’m sure they would have focused on Harbour at his absolute worst in the series (I promise I’m not anti-Harbour, the material in Season 3 didn’t help whatsoever) instead of Montgomery or Keery, or Brown in her least amount of focus in the series instead of Hawke. And it’s the primary reason why I’m scared of Sink’s chances; while this season does justify Brown’s chances, I’m afraid either the Emmys or the campaign team is going to simply nominate her just because (the only reason why I’m still predicting her is because Max’s arc has the closest thing to a viral sensation since #JusticeForBarb).</span>
ReplyCopy URLJuly 4, 2022 at 6:45 am #1205003238I have mixed feelings on this season. As a massive fan of the series and I loved the first three seasons, this seemed to really take a back seat for me. The cast is getting older and you can definitely tell the vibes and the chemistry between them is fading. This just doesn’t have the same vibes as it did the first two seasons which made the show great. There were highlights throughout the season, but I find myself caring less and less about this group as the series goes on. I do think it’s more than appropriate to end this series. What once was unique and masterful storytelling, has turned into a more going through the motions type of series and more of the same old same old. This season had really bad filler storylines too, especially Harbors whole storyline. There’s still some really great things about S4 like the final two episodes, the technical aspects never fail, the cinematography etc. but I’m looking forward to the end.

I did like the season but you’re spot on about the actors’s fading chemistry. They’re much older now and look a little out of place in that high school setting (I’m looking at Will especially) and they seem really fragmented as a group. I know the showrunners want us to believe it’s a plot point and their natural transition to adults but it’s just a lack of chemistry and diverging plot lines.
I found it weird that Dustin never communicated with the Gang even once through his radio nor did the gang in Hawkins care about the California group. They don’t even know El saved Max! There was also surprisingly no major reaction to Eddie’s death or Max’s hospitalisation from the group? The last 15 minutes were a mess.
I’m desperately hoping season 5 finds a way to tie in these storylines and bring the kids together for the final showdown. Having a great plot is important but so is individual character development. I’m especially hoping Mike has a larger part and Will has something else to do besides crying and touching his neck.
