Give Sarah Snook that fucking emmy I’m so srs
Four-time Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan!
Give Sarah Snook her rightful Emmy win right NOW.
March 26, 2023 at 10:24 pm #1205365187I had tears in my eyes twice. The first from laughing so hard at the “roasting” (I legit played it back like five times cuz I was just cackling and couldn’t get through it). The second at crying at the Shiv/Tom scene.
An initially slow, but ultimately fantastic premiere.
A (9/10)
Emmys FYC:
Comedy: The Bear, Cunk on Earth, Only Murders in the Building, Reservation Dogs

March 27, 2023 at 3:04 am #1205365281MacFadyen and Snook absolutely devoured that ending scene, I still have goosebumps. Emmys for both of them immediately. I was worried when they skipped past them actually breaking up but it feels like after Italy they just went their separate ways and didn’t really discuss it, it honestly feels like this was their first time discussing any of it, and, of course, even when they are talking about their failed marriage head on they refuse to talk about it. They way they captured that feeling of animosity between two people who had a falling out but have been avoiding each other finally being confronted with what they’re trying to avoid, and STILL avoiding it even in the same room as each other… Nothing else like this on TV.
Glad she rejected his advancement too. It was clinging on to some power she had but also felt like “I can’t do that to myself”
March 27, 2023 at 3:35 am #1205365303I bawled my eyes out at that scene… what could’ve been if Logan hadn’t been such a malignant force in their lives

I loved the premiere. Perfect mix of comedy and drama, as usual, with that gut punch of an ending between Shiv and Tom. Snook and Macfadyen were fantastic.
Roman had me dying all episode. So did Connor and Willa. I just love this show and the entire ensemble. I never wanted the episode to end!
March 27, 2023 at 7:57 am #1205365449We living in a timeline wherein Roman is probably the smartest of the three!
March 27, 2023 at 7:58 am #1205365452This show is spectacular, must-see television. I hope HBO pushes Snook to Lead, as she can win this year.
March 27, 2023 at 8:24 am #1205365470It was so satisfying to see Logan feeling adrift without his children when he was the one who pushed them away. Greg ain’t it, I’m afraid.
March 27, 2023 at 9:00 am #1205365503Matthew Macfadyen ladies and gentleman!
I think watching the opener (and re-watching “All the Bells Say” a couple of nights ago) after having seen Mylod display his directing talents in The Menu made me appreciate his directing style a bit more. He manages to table set each episode in a grounded and low-key way that really services the show’s scripts well. In “All the Bells Say” this led to the viewer feeling just as much of an impact and shock when the kids found out that they were being cut out from the company and Shiv found out about Tom’s betrayal as when those moments happened on screen. Here in “The Munsters” it sets set up the season and re-introduces the show well after the climactic events of last season. I really liked how the premiere felt a lot drier in the scenes in Logan’s appartment (to the point even Logan said he felt it was dry lmao) and the camera-work felt noticeably shaky and excited whenever we were following the kids in this episode. Jesse Armstrong mentioned that he decided to end the show after four sessons because it felt natural to do so as it was being written and I think you can really see that in the paralleling of the opener with the show’s pilot also celebrating Logan’s birthday and questioning his mortality.
Snook was excellent (per usual) and I like the scenes Cherry Jones had here but I actually found Cox’s performance in the episode quite striking just through the moments Logan didn’t even say much and wasn’t even talking at all. Of course an actor can say a lot about a character in their performance when they don’t even have any dialogue to read but it wasn’t neccessarily that I thought it made it more nuanced that made his performance stand out for me but more that it’s really interesting to see a character like Logan Roy in isolation. Critics noted Jeremy Strong more in the four episodes that were made available for review (and I presume something incredibly dramatic is going to happen with Kendall soon) but it makes me all the more curious about what type of season Cox is going to have if this is already what he has to deal with.
Above all though I’m just glad my

March 27, 2023 at 10:34 am #1205365662There’s shoot of Shiv in the upcoming episodes’s trailer with Snook looking furious that’s been carved in my mind.
