Okay, so including Alan Ruck in that poll and making an offhand comment that I didn’t think he’d get any votes was a mistake, cause then he got enough votes to put him over 50%.
So there’s three possibilities:
Alan Ruck has a huge number of fans on Gold Derby who mysteriously stayed completely silent about his performance until that poll (technically they’d still be silent since no one commented that they voted for him).
Alan Ruck has a ton of Gold Derby accounts and he really wanted to win that poll
Or, more realistically, my comment about him caused a shitload of contrarian votes.
So I’m just gonna do the poll again, and exclude Ruck this time to get the actual numbers.
My vote goes to Macfadyen.
ReplyJune 11, 2020 at 10:31 am #1203528028I stand with Ruck. I think he is very underrated and I’m not that much a fan of the other 3. A nom for his onscreen partner Justine Lupe would also be lovely, she delivers great performances in 2 frontrunners.

That tea is delicious! Justine Lupe would be so deserving.
Also, count me among those who really prefer Ruck over the other 3.

Agree with the second point. Lupe deserves to be nominated in Comedy Guest Actress for Maisel and in Drama Guest Actress along with Harriet Walter and Cherry Jones (both of whom I think are easily getting in).

June 11, 2020 at 10:39 am #1203528051For those who would’ve actually voted for Ruck, I’m sorry to exclude him, cause I think he does a great job and his performance is underrated. But there’s no way that most of those votes were legitimate, given he plays the smallest and least popular main character (who this forum has said practically nothing about before today), and I’m not gonna do another poll that gets completely derailed.

There’s really nothing special about him. Are you sure you guys aren’t more in love with the character (though it’s hard for me to even imagine that) than the performance? Macfadyen has served and would be deserving.
Waiting for someone to say Rob Yang now btw.

June 11, 2020 at 11:08 am #1203528127First of all, I think Connor is a very interesting character. There is a lot to explore with him being the black sheep of the family and I hope they delve into that in s3. Ruck plays with that dimension really well whenever he has a scene with the whole family. The character also has a lot of insecurities, as we see with his relationship with women. Saying he has a scene stealing performance would be an exaggeration, but it’s not that far off.
ReplyCopy URLJune 11, 2020 at 11:12 am #1203528138This poll has also failed. It seems that the Ruck votes were really anti-Macfadyen/thatnerdgreg votes (based on the non-Ruck distribution in the last poll before the socks came, as well as the original Culkin/Macfadyen poll) because they have redistributed here. It was too soon to restart this.

Yeah, I realized shortly after reposting that I should’ve waited longer. If anyone wants to try and do a poll with all four men at a later date, be my guest, cause I’m not gonna do a fourth poll on this topic.
ReplyCopy URLJune 11, 2020 at 11:47 am #1203528229Would anyone of us vote for Marsha Stephanie Blake or Margaret Qualley? Or even John Leguizamo for Waco? Maybe Ruck has some passion that we weren’t aware of. His character had the most of Succession’s comedic material.
ReplyCopy URLJune 11, 2020 at 12:04 pm #1203528269I would’ve voted for Margaret Qualley.
And Ruck doesn’t have the most of the show’s comedic material. Braun is the most overtly comedic character.
