I highly doubt Ms Marvel will end up being a big contender if something like Never Have I Ever couldn’t. Unless you’re called Euphoria, the bias against teen shows still appears to be strong at the Emmys.

And even Euphoria needed the HBO prestige, the son of Barry Levinson, one of the most famous women on the planet as it’s lead and year’s worth of natural discovery to get there.

If it began airing April 2020 instead June 2019, I’m not sure it even gets nominated for anything outside of maybe score, at least not without a year for people to sit with it / the initial controversy to die down and the industry to discover it organically.

    Oscars FYC:

"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories

"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature

“The Green Knight” – in all categories

I’d argue Normal People was more popular and acclaimed than Conversations with Friends. Many people discovered Sally Rooney (and thus CwF) through Normal People. There’s a reason it was the first one of her works to be adapted.

I adore Conversations With Friends. Jemima Kirke coming through with a perfect Supporting Actress role.

I enjoyed the first two episodes of Lisey’s Story. Directing is a particular standout.(Does it have its own thread?)

I posted this a while back on the Impeachment thread but I have a strong feeling Paulson will go lead. They have too many supporting actresses on the show (Ashford, Falco and Martindale – although I think the latter’s role will be minor à la Connie Britton in OJ Simpson) and Paulson’s role is the biggest along with Feldstein’s.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

I don’t even remember Connie Britton being in OJ lol.

    It's all about Ethan Hawke!

    Lena Headey is coming. https://twitter.com/FilmUpdateMedia/status/1401266058686779393?s=19

As she should (justice for the GoT robbery!) and I hope this is finally Justin Theroux’s vehicle. But I can’t help but wonder if HBO will delay this to the 2023 season like they did with Scenes From a Marriage this year?

Not only do they have Scenes From a Marriage but they also have Landscapers (starring Olivia Colman and David Thewliss), Brideshead Revisited (starring Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett and directed by Luca Guadagnino), The White Lotus (starring Connie Britton and Jennifer Coolidge) and potentially The Time Traveller’s Wife (from Steven Moffatt and David Nutter) which could go either drama or limited.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

I don’t think Brideshead Revisited is happening. It wasn’t an official announcement and Guadagnino said he’ll shoot Scarface after his current horror film. That cast was also too good to be true…

    Limited

    1. Impeachment
    2. Anatomy of a Scandal
    3. Scenes from a Marriage
    4. Pam & Tommy
    5. Landscapers

    Actress

    1. Beanie Feldstein, Impeachment
    2. Sienna Miller, Anatomy of a Scandal
    3. Olivia Colman, Landscapers
    4. Jessica Chastain, Scenes From a Marriage
    5. Lily James, Pam & Tommy

    Actor

    1. Oscar Isaac, Scenes From a Marriage
    2. David Thewliss, Landscapers
    3. Michael Keaton, Dopesick
    4. Sebastian Stan, Pam & Tommy
    5. Paul Bettany, A Very British Scandal

    Supporting Actress

    1. Sarah Paulson, Impeachment
    2. Michelle Dockery,  Anatomy of a Scandal
    3. Annaleigh Ashford, Impeachment
    4. Edie Falco, Impeachment
    5. Naomi Scott, Anatomy of a Scandal
    6. Maisie Williams, Pistol

    Supporting Actor

    1. Clive Owen, Impeachment
    2. Billy Eichner, Impeachment
    3. Rupert Friend, Anatomy of a Scandal
    4. Seth Rogen, Pam & Tommy
    5. Michael Stuhlbarg, Dopesick
    6. Ben Radcliffe, Anatomy of a Scandal (?)

The Limited Series category is a tricky one. Pretty much any of these shows besides Impeachment can be this year’s TQG or this year’s The Undoing / A Teacher.

Pam & Tommy is easily the most talked-about contender aside from the MCU stuff & maybe Impeachment. (That doesn’t mean its going to sweep but its not going to be overlooked either. It could be Hulu’s main contender if it sticks the landing)

With regards to Anatomy of a Scandal, unless the show takes too many liberties when it comes to its adaptation, I think Miller, Friend, Dockery and Scott are the limit when it comes to acting nominations.

This is quite a baity role for Dockery. Unless the show ends up not being as big a contender as we’re expecting, I think she’ll be at worst looking at being this year’s Toni Collette. Especially if Sarah Paulson is indeed going lead for Impeachment.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.
