I thought considering we only have a just over two months left of Emmy eligibility that this was a suitable time to open a discussion about the forthcoming TCA awards. Do you have any predictions for what will get nominated? Which performances do you think could get recognised? What are you hoping to see turn up here from what is now 9 and a half months of the 2021-2022 television cycle?

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

The most important question: there will be a actor in the drama side strong enough to win this time? Since 2015 only actress won this category

Every winner since 2014 (with the exception of Michelle Williams) has been a performer who was in one of the two highest placers on end of year critics lists for either the prior or forthcoming year. In 2021 the two shows with the most placements were Succession and Squid Game so that probably places Strong and Jung-jae as the frontrunners here at this point. I can see Odenkirk winning because they’ll be voting whilst the final half of Better Call Saul airs although him technically winning for half a season does feel weird but whatever.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I think Hannah and Jason in all likelihood repeat, Pamela Adlon could also turn up here again too. I think Michael Keaton and Lee Jung-Jae are at least nominated. Agree on Odenkirk.

I’ll be interested to see if and where they nominate The White Lotus‘ performances and if we could see a situation where they nominate Coolidge in comedy but Bartlett in drama.

I don’t know if I’ve been on this site too long, but does anyone else get this weird sort of satisfaction when seeing someone post a new set of predictions? Or am I just weird? Maybe it’s just seeing an organized list of something that gets me, but it’s so pleasing to the eyes.

Anyway, I’m excited to see what makes TCA this year; I’m wondering if we’ll have the first male actor to sweep the big 5 (thinking maybe Garfield?).

My money is on Firth or Garfield (as a I said before I think Keaton is a weak frontrunner and won’t win the Emmy)

I really like Keaton. I won’t be devastated if he weakens, but I don’t think he’d be a bad Emmy winner. I think his real advantage at this stage though is the fact that he’s clearly stronger than anyone in 2021 and he’ll be buoyed by all these precursors.
