I find Dopesick winning limited far more jarring than the Abbot sweep (despite Barry being the best TV season this cycle).
ReplyCopy URLAugust 6, 2022 at 12:24 pm #1205036832I miss ths days when they had enough courage and individuality to stop the sweep of something like Breaking Bad and award The Good Wife instead. What a depressing list of winners overall.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 6, 2022 at 12:31 pm #1205036836Stunning. Stunningly good. And not a squid in sight. Good on ya, Mandy. This was like a slalom course in skiing, and the TCA didn’t clip a single gate. The right shows won. I can’t get over just how pitch-perfect and logical these winners are. Brunson over Hader. Karma Gods smited genre fraud but good.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 6, 2022 at 12:31 pm #1205036838Oh wow, I didn’t realize abc hadn’t even been nominated for best new show in 10 years (for revenge). So definitely unexpected before the show debuted.
Revenge bad bitch overcoming broadcast soap-ish drama bias. Should’ve been nominated for its first season.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 6, 2022 at 12:35 pm #1205036846They fell for the shiny new toy Abbott Elementary
If anything was a ‘shiny new toy’ it was Squid Game.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 6, 2022 at 12:44 pm #1205036861Squid Game didn’t even win ANYTHING at the TCAs. The beef you have towards it is very weird and lowkey racist, tbh. You’re free to dislike it, but damn, there’s a line.
Oh, they’re extremely xenophobic and racist. Clueless too, I should say. Nothing new to see here.

I’m not sure if I find it more egregious when Station Eleven doesn’t get nominated for something it should be easily in contention to win for or when it does get nominated and loses to works that are far inferior.

August 6, 2022 at 12:47 pm #1205036867The only changes I would have made are Succession for Program of the Year and Severance for Achievement in Drama.

August 6, 2022 at 12:59 pm #1205036880Am I the only one who thinks this doesn’t change anything?
I mean, Succession would still have drama series in the bag even if Severance or Squid Game won here, Abbott still won’t win comedy series without a directing nod and Dopesick vs The White Lotus is still an open race.
TCA is usually helpfull to predict nominations, especially if a supporting performance manages to sneak in, but not so much when it comes to wins.

Yes, and Drama Actress has a good chance at a Mandy Moore upset!
Oh wait.
