Adele said in her Instagram live that she watched Ted Lasso. I fear this show’s popularity is just too much to deny.

October 9, 2021 at 8:36 pm #1204511368I have no idea what to make of this season overall. I loved it, but I also REALLY agree with a lot of the criticisms.
Few things:
– Hannah Waddingham is a lead… I know some people said she’s more supporting this season and I can see why but last season she was playing the antagonist for most of it. It made sense. This time Ted & Rebecca are put on par most of the time, esp the funeral episode. She should go lead so as to allow Temple & Niles both to get nods.– Toheeb Jimoh, Sarah Niles, Phil Dunster — I really want them to get nods, they’re awesome.
– I know this is a show where everybody is MVP lol, and that is true, but for my money June Temple makes this sing in ways few other characters do. Unlike Ted, Keeley has a fairly healthy relationship with her warmth and kindness.
– Would Cristo Hernandez (Dani) and David Elsendoorn (Jan Maas) qualify for guest? Because honestly……. they’re so good.
In order of my love for them (yes this ranking is HARD but I love em all so no need to tell me someone’s too low lol, they’re all a hair of each other), I’d nominate:
Juno Temple
Hannah Waddingham
Sarah Niles
Phil Dunster
Brett Goldstein
Jason Sudeikis
Nick Mohammed
Toheeb Jimoh
Brendan Hunt
Jeremy Swift
Cristo Fernandez
David Elsendoorn
Kola Bokinni
Harriet Walter
Ellie Taylor
James Lance
Annette Badland
Elodie BlomfieldJuno Temple would make for my fave win if it happens. Move Waddingham up and let her take this!!! Niles would be amazing too though — she blew me away every episode even when everything else faltered.
Phil Dunster & Brett Goldstein — honestly, either of them should win for the locker room scene alone. I’d give it to Dunster even though Roy gets way more stories than Jamie. Honestly, at this point it feels like Goldstein is just as much a lead as Sudeikis.
Jimoh is obviously a supporting actor but he’s not part of the main cast so would he go guest? Jimoh or Fernandez would be AWESOME winners in guest, as would Harriet Walter/Ellie Taylor or even Badland (Mae is awesome!)

Nope. Guests need to appear in less than half the episodes, so in this case in a 12 episode season, 5. Almost all of the team members appear in nearly every episode, even if it’s just as background. Annette doesn’t qualify either. I’d need to check but I think more of the cast may be eligible for SAG ensemble this year, though.

I strongly disagree with both cases here. If Hannah wasn’t considered as lead for last season, no way that is happening now, and definitely not regarding her storyline. And as for Goldstein, I don’t even see how that got into the discussion lol
ReplyCopy URLOctober 9, 2021 at 10:07 pm #1204511403Hannah definitely isn’t a lead this season.. Goldstein felt more like a co-lead this time around especially in the first half of the season.

This category prefers straight-up unambiguous leads (usually title-character leads). She is not that. If it’s debate-able, she should stay in supporting.

Fair, but being the title character he’ll always go lead. He does have less time this season.

he leaves, the show ends. definition of a lead.

Not a big fan of the finale. Nate’s outburst felt totally unmotivated to me. Usually when there’s a big change for a character, the show has everything fall neatly into place. But this one had me looking back to see if I missed an episode somewhere.
The one thing I did find brilliant was the way they turned last season’s finale around — Jamie passing a shot to a teammate had a completely different outcome for Richmond this time.
The season had a couple of misfires, but it had more successes. “Man City,” “Carol of the Bells,” “Rainbow,” and “No Weddings and a Funeral” were all aces.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 12, 2021 at 6:18 am #1204514898Yes lmao “felt totally unmotivated” did we watch the same season?
ReplyCopy URLOctober 12, 2021 at 6:45 am #1204514930Yes, Nate finally got tired of the background and relished a chance to be the center of attention at whatever cost. But his rage at Ted felt misplaced and just didn’t click for me.
