Really enjoyable series. On paper, the premise of a white man getting a job he knows nothing about is honestly kind of irritating, lol. But I think the way Ted Lasso is written as the antithesis of toxic masculinity and “macho-ness,” especially in a sports comedy, is incredibly refreshing. Just very thoughtful writing all around, and great acting from Sudeikis and Waddingham, too.

If previous nominees like Barry, TMM, Insecure, Atlanta, WWDITS, etc. were all in the running for various awards this year, I think Ted Lasso probably wouldn’t have as much of a chance, awards-wise. But with most, if not all of them ineligible, Lasso seems like a shoo-in for the Globes and Emmys. SAG probably still has too much competition from last year’s shows still being eligible, but it’s a possibility there, too.

Looking forward to seasons two and three!

I wonder if they’ll campaign Waddingham in Lead (which is actually totally valid imo) to avoid vote-splitting with the more obviously supporting Juno Temple, who widely seems to be considered the “funniest” member of the cast (or at least the one who lands the most jokes).

With Insecure and Schitt’s Creek definitely out and Dead to Me and Maisel possibly missing too, I think they might actually both have a shot

    – I also wonder who their push in supporting actor will be (if only one), as there doesn’t seem to be a clear standout among Goldstein, Dunster, Hunt, and Mohammed

This show is amazing. Second half especially. I wonder why initially it didn’t have stronger reviews. Maybe they screwed it like The Morning Show and didn’t send to critics the entire season.

I totally support a lead nomination for Waddingham.

I just finished this show…oh my gosh, it is really good. Hannah Waddingham is brillant in this and so is Jason Sudekis. Both should get awards noms. I also really would like to see Juno Temple get nominations because this is easily her best performance.

Once I got over the fact that the premise is largely swiped from Major League, I really started to enjoy the show. The cast shines and they never take exactly the story path you would think. Want to give a special shout-out to Brendan Hunt, whose deadpan Coach Beard keeps the tone balanced.

With this airing during voting Series, Sudeikis and Waddingham are locks for the win and we love to see it (they kind of were before I saw these reviews but I think it’s even more clear now). Apple really said

Apparently, there’s a Christmas Special episode.

This is fascinating. The show does feel sometimes like it’s a tonal amalgamation of 30 Rock and a British channel 4 sitcom (although Sudeikis said in an interview they were trying to capture a tone reminiscent to The Office UK?) and it tends to be holiday tradition over here for the biggest shows to have their own holiday specials (Downton did it, Doctor Who does it). But those usually air on Christmas Day or somewhere in the festive season and tend to be the finale or season opener not an August released fourth episode so I’m interested to see where this goes!

Season 2 at 87 on Metacritic with 12 reviews and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 23 reviews.

    It’s not an awards player
