A mix of Dead To Me, A Simple Favour and Catch Me If You Can.

Very intrigued about the praise around Cuoco’s performance. And I am a fan of Michelle Gomez so this shall be interesting (shame it hasn’t aired here yet).
What channel is it due to air on in UK?

November 26, 2020 at 9:12 am #1203875170I enjoyed the first episode. Quite trippy, but engaging and fun. Cast is decent.

However I cannot stand the hallucinations (I can generally tolerate these once in a season or maybe one an episode, but not 5), the banter between the FBI agents, and the brother subplot.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 28, 2020 at 9:19 pm #1203881453I saw the first episode (the pilot is available for free on HBO Max and I just used a VPN) and I honestly was not expecting such a well written episode from a show that from the trailer looked like it would be a guilty pleasure.
I think this might be one of the best written pilots I’ve seen in a while. From a writing perspective it set up its story nicely without spilling too much for the laptop to explode.
Cuoco is also excellent here. I had my expectations low (I just saw her as the multi-cam sitcom girl) and I thought she might just play Penny again but I forgot who Penny was when I watched this. She held both the comedic and dramatic beats of this show quite well. I also thought Rosie Perez was great in the bits she was in.
As for its category placement I think either it does a Dead to Me as people are saying they’re tonally similar (I’ve never seen an episode of the show so I can’t say) or it does a Killing Eve. I feel like it’s just more of a high class dramedy and am leaning more towards it being placed in the less competitive comedy categories. Either way watch out for Cuoco being a threat for the win.
So far a beautifully shot (did they shot it abroad or were those just elaborate sets) classy thriller dramedy and I can’t wait for when this comes to the UK so I can watch the remaining episodes.
