How sustainable is this show and cast long term? ie if the theatres get back up and running how do they sustain the continuity of that lovely Tony nominated cast? Is it possible if it doesn’t hit it goes to limited?

This is a great question given the size of the ensemble and the caliber of the talent, but I don’t think it’ll be a major issue. With the exception of the six core characters (Baranski, Nixon, Coon, Spector, Benton, Jacobson), I’d imagine if any of those theatre actors take stage roles they could shoot this on one-show days. The Good Wife did this constantly with their theatre talent, and even though a period drama must be much more time intensive I think the actors with smaller roles like Kristine Nielsen, Debra Monk, Linda Emond could shoot their scenes before curtain. Not to mention so many of these actors are usually in limited engagements on stage – 16 weeks a year on Broadway, maybe 20 in production on this? I don’t envy whoever has to put together the schedule, though…

Overall I enjoyed this and think it has potential to become the next zeitgeisty show, filling the void left by the last season of Succession and Mare. While I understand the critiques of it seeming like “Downton Lite”, I think now that the first episode has laid out the important details, we’ll (hopefully) get some of the Victorian melodrama that we know Fellowes is capable of serving. Also, I found Nixon to be the MVP of this episode who was absolutely joyous in her limited screen time, and I can imagine if she gets some showy scenes that push her character’s sunny disposition to the edge, that she could really nail that and secure an Emmy nom.

Apparently she has a showcase in one of the next four episodes that were screened for critics.

Love to hear it! Cynthia Nixon is truly one of the best actresses working today, and I’m glad she gets to prove that in this show.

This was exactly what I thought it would be. I liked it enough. It all just feels predictable and been there done that though. Like my eyes rolled to the back of my head when it was revealed Baranski’s son was gay at the end of the pilot lol. It was between her son or Coon’s son and since Jacobson’s character is related to one of them…well, process of elimination!

The cast is good. Nixon was the mvp for me if I had to name one. I actually think Coon is miscast but judging by the responses in this thread, I see that I’m alone there.

I’ll continue watching because I’ve always wanted to live in a brownstone on the ues lol. And it’s still enjoyable though too familiar.

More intense than I tought it would be but I had some problems with the pace. But I enjoyed a lot and it’s giving me pure joy watch a tv show with so many of my favorite actress.

Agree about Coon having a raw performance in the best way, so powerful the way she delivere lines.

Cynthia Nixon’s been doing a lot of promotion for the show (along with And Just Like That). She was on Drew Barrymore today and is on Seth Myers tonight.

I’m loving Baranski and Coon, the whole cast was good tho, even the younger actors! Didnt even know Gladys was Taissa Farmiga, The Russel’s son is beautiful🥺🥺🥺, kinda was hoping he was the gay one LOL, and I also need an episode with a great showstopping showcase from Audra so she can get her acting emmy

Omg not at all. I adore Coon but I truly thought that she was miscast. But I think it’s just the first episode and we should give her more time.

I wouldn’t like it being a white saviour-y situation like we’ve seen so many period dramas do in the past but I can’t really trust Fellowes on that one lol.

Soo true! I really hope they stay away from such tendencies.

Watched the pilot and loved it. Yeah, it’s nothing new but it’s still very well made and the cast is amazing. The first minutes were literally copy paste from the first minutes of Downton Abbey but it didn’t bother me. Carrie Coon easily MVP for me, with Nixon and Baranski also being standouts. Denée Benton was also very nice. Can’t wait to see more of her.  Taissa Farmiga was weird to me. She barely had anything to do in the episode, but idk, she just felt odd. And Louisa Jacobson, well…lets just hope she improves.

Also, Harry Richardson is a snack. Kinda disappointed he’s not the gay one but, at least, he’ll still grace us with his presence on screen.
