I wanted to post my thoughts on a thread and i didn’t find one, so here it goes.
I find all 3 episodes I’ve seen so far very good, it’s a case you get wrapped in very easily and Fanning is giving a masterclass of performance. Chloe Sevigny also is very good and both would be deserving of nominations.I’m on to watch episode 4.

speak on it!!! Her Big Love snubs were unforgivable, and now that she is again doing win worthy work in The Girl From Plainville and hopefully has something good to do in Russian Doll, they better not decide to pay my girl dust again!!
ReplyCopy URLApril 10, 2022 at 12:43 pm #1204911349The choice to show Conrad’s body when the police discovered him at the start of the show was a bit of a clumsy one for many different reasons but aside from that I thought these were four solid episodes! Out of the true crime limited series I’ve seen so far this season this has had by far the strongest start (although I haven’t seen WeCrashed). Whilst the show has a considerable focus on Michelle Carter it never once tries to make the audience sympathise with her which is something II thought was lacking a bit in both Inventing Anna and The Dropout. There’s an element of humanity the show keeps focusing on whether that’s with the narrative focus on Conrad and his mother or what I thought was the clever use of Michelle’s friend/crush in the third and fourth episodes as a foil.
Admittedly it took me a while to get into Fanning’s performance because it was quite different than I what I was expecting from her but her performance here feels so frighteningly real in ways I don’t even think I can begin to describe. It’s a great casting choice to cast an actress of a similar generation to the protagonist but is also much older than them now than they were at the the time of these events because you have someone who can really get it to the nit and grit of the character and the period this show is set who can also give an element of the false maturity Carter had. The real star (or rather MVP) for me here though is Chloe Sevigny who is just absolutely heartbreaking and delivers a portrait of grief that just feels very delicately handled.

ReplyCopy URLApril 10, 2022 at 3:40 pm #1204911631I would like to believe Hulu sees this show as The Act: Season 2 and so far, half of the season having aired, it is not as compelling as the former. Elle Fanning is incredible though.

Chloe is great.
Elle is good but i find her quite annoying

She’s doing a fantastic job here. Each of her projects feel very journalistic in how much they capture a very “real” one and that continues to be the case here. Those Glee scenes are creepy but they also felt like they were shot by someone who knew and researched in depth about this case and pop culture at the time.

she needs to have a Jane Campion season. It’s like she has being blackballed out of movies for some reason. She should have made more movies than she has .

She supposedly was set to direct a remake of Toni Erdmann (which really should not happen) but I think that project has gone into limbo.

Blame Colton Ryan’s agent I think. He’s the only truly good casting in the DEH movie, as he had been doing the role in US stage tours. That probably inspired those working for him to deem him “the kid who plays suicide” – and yeah, it doesn’t sound comfortable.
