Love the show but I hope it ends next season. It’s time narratively.
I agree. Especially with the whole “shift” in June’s character this season, I can’t imagine the show going on for an additional four seasons.
Yeah, it’s def ending very soon, which is completely fine — especially since we’re still getting The Tesstaments with Ann Dowd.
Ann Dowd is going to KILL in The Testaments. I wonder if they’ll adapt it as a mini-series or a long-running one.

Hmm, good question. I have not read the novel but do know that THT has already covered some developments (though very few) from it. I would bet on a multi-season series, to be honest, otherwise Hulu would have announced it as a limited series straight away. I cannot wait for Ann Dowd to obliterate the screen.

Yeah the show has indeed covered a few of Atwood’s developments in the book with how the plot has shifted (I won’t say what they were of course for people who haven’t read The Testaments).
It’s obviously WAY too early to discuss this but it will be very interesting to see if they place Dowd in lead for The Testaments. I’d argue there are three ladies of the book (including Aunt Lydia) but her role feels the most “supporting”.

The way this show has only become more and more relevant as the years go on is so creepy.

It’s like Margaret Atwood said. What she wrote wasn’t fictional. Some of the things that happen in Gilead have been happening in other parts of the world for many years now. It’s just starting to feel a lot closer to home now. Yikes.

September 2, 2021 at 9:55 am #1204430627It’s truly vomit-inducing. There are so many parallels to contemporary U.S. society at this point. I’ve also always found it truly irritating how people just disregarded how all of this shit actually happens in other countries around the world. None of this is made up. Yahlin Chang has even stated multiple times that they can’t even show half of what happens IRL on the show. But let’s continue calling it torture porn. Sure.

Exactly. Even without the truly terrifying parallels to contemporary American society, what’s going on in Afghanistan right now for example is more or less a re-run of the events that led to Gilead’s rise.

Yeah, Abbott and De Santis are both devils.

October 23, 2021 at 12:48 pm #1204534456I always find it ironic (and somewhat sad because I used to really respect Atwood, as seen above, and Rowling) how the most transphobic writers in the world of literature tend to be the ones who have brought ground-breaking portrayals of issues affecting those on the fringes to mainstream literature.
The term TERF is often used to describe people like Atwood and Rowling but I honestly don’t know how we can even call them radical feminists when they don’t believe in the rights of all women.
