Hakim deserves an Emmy nom. Chilling work. She built a whole character in that intro.
She was really outstanding.
I thought the way they depicted the Indonesian authorities was also very surprising, not at all the cliche I was half expecting.

January 26, 2023 at 3:03 am #1205268112I just wanted to repost what I said from the Emmys thread
Anyone else impressed with Christine Hakim in the recent episode of The Last of Us ? I think she’d be a great option here
I should have come to this thread first 🤡 glad to see others were moved by her performance too!
This show is working well on so many levels. I like how it’s going into more of the science of the virus too. I haven’t played the game in a few years so it’s nice to see how their attention to detail is bringing back memories
Although I wouldn’t say I’ve been wowed by Pascal yet either, I have to say his performance is impressive. His confliction and realisation at the end of that episode; he’s a wounded and tough guy after years of tragedy but there’s definitely a vulnerability under the surface there. Excited to see how he continues.

January 27, 2023 at 12:39 pm #1205270878Finally able to watch the second episode and I’m beyond impressed by the way they translate gameplay segments to the show. A lot of the tension in the game comes from playing as the characters and knowing that if you mess up the character will die, and I think it’s something a lot of video game adaptations struggle with. During the action scenes here I felt just as, if not more, tense as I did playing the game. It was shot so seamlessly and written so well that I didn’t even realize they had switched from something that was a cutscene in the game to a section where you’re controlling Joel. Expertly done

I prefer my roses whiteJanuary 29, 2023 at 7:29 pm #1205274151As a fan of the game, I have mixed feelings. This episode was beautiful and very powerful emotionally. I even cried. Very good acting and writing. But at the same time, the purpose of this episode was… not clear. It didn’t advance the story. It feels useless by the end of it. And it was too different from the game.

Um, wow. Oh my god. Perhaps it’s terribly presumptuous of me to say this considering it’s January, but this might have just been my favorite episode of television so far this year. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett were utterly brilliant. Excellent direction and score, and I don’t think I’ve seen such a tender, humanistic portrait of an older queer relationship on television since Severance (which I also quite enjoyed). I love how their relationship is displayed throughout periodic vignettes as time passes, but through the performances and writing, you can read between the lines and understand that their love was real and complex and even deeper than what we as the audience have been allowed to see. Their love grows and ages, just as they do. I don’t know, I’m rambling, but this was just a beautiful and remarkably well-produced episode and is not only already my favorite of the show (and I’m doubtful it’ll be topped), but one of my favorites of the year. Really a splendid watch.

I really doubt anything can top this for a while. Have not sobbed like that from a TV episode in a while, probably since Fire Pink.

I highly doubt they’ll top this one, everything was so perfect, I’m crying my eyes out rn.
I wanna mention the score, the score was so perfect, they deserve to win with this score.ReplyCopy URLFYC:
