I love Star Wars (hate the fan base), but I think the brand name hurts the show’s chances.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 24, 2019 at 11:30 am #1203037800Sweetie, don’t be delusional. Everyone keeps saying everyone is looking for the next Game of Thrones. No. Once another Game of Thrones shows up, that’ll be it. It’s not Stranger Things, Westworld or any future Disney+ atrocity. Both of the former getting Emmys love is exactly the result of Game of Thrones opening up the boundaries for genres. They’re not the new Game of Thrones. You also forget one big important detail. Those shows feature Emmy-worthy acting, directing and writing, none of which will Disney plus shows feature. Concerning the few names you’ve mentioned, the Emmys are done name-checking people just because they’re names. Not that Taika Waititi or whatever his name is a big director name rofl. All Mandalorian will do is win visual effects.
Okay, first of all how in the world do you know Disney plus isn’t going to have Emmy-worthy acting and directing you have never seen anything they have put out yet. My point was, you never know guys. The direction Disney plus is going in isn’t g-rated. You don’t think Bob Iger won’t try to win some awards? I’m sure most of you are right and it’ll just win for the technically awards but I’m not ruling anything out. Disney might see TV as a better platform for awards rather than their movies. I don’t think there is anything “delusional” about keeping an open mind.

I’m actually wondering this too. I hope they don’t waste an amazing actor like Pedro Pascal and don’t give him any lines. Even though Disney called this an official trailer, this was definitely a teaser so hopefully we’ll see more soon.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 24, 2019 at 12:29 pm #1203037902With the TV landscape being as crowded as it is I don’t see how franchise players (Star Wars, MCU) from Disney+ make awards splashes. Big budget franchise movie attract Oscar winning talent in front and behind the camera all the time, and are rarely considered award threats (Black Panther and TDK are exceptions). I’m not saying it’s impossible, it would just require one of these shows to go in a completely new direction/have an unheard of critical reception for them to be taken seriously in the awards conversation.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 24, 2019 at 6:31 pm #1203038358I mean Jessica Jones s1 had a good network, release date, was critically acclaimed (81 on metacritic) and had Krysten Ritter delivering an oustanding performance and still got nothing, even at the globes, except a CC nom. And we can’t say it wasn’t a hyped show or that it lacked visibility because Daredevil s1 was quite successful and well received and the whole Defenders project was buzzy back then.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 24, 2019 at 7:07 pm #1203038367I could care less for Star Wars, but this trailer was mind blowing.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 26, 2019 at 8:04 pm #1203041991I figured that Disney+ would be an awards player like we are expecting Apple+ to be, then I took a look at their slate and it is full of stuff like The Mandalorian. Nope!

That means that you do care.

I saw a comic con clip where he does speak in the same accent he used for Oberyn but I’m not sure if his character ever takes off the helmet

The trailer is pretty dark. I know Disney said the streaming service wouldn’t go R which is really disappointing and contradicts my earlier points, but I still have hope that this will be darker than the Star Wars movies.

I’m also going to guess that twist will somehow tie into Episode 9.
I love how the aliens are not CGI like so many other shows would do. Practical effects are still the best.
Can’t wait for the next episode on Friday!
