I did this for the film section. Now, lets have the discussion for female TV character roles. Which female roles do you consider to be the most iconic ever? Here are my top 10 (thus far):

    1. Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) – I love Lucy
    2. Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) – Murder, She Wrote
    3. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) – X-Files
    4. The Ladies of “The Golden Girls”
    5. Carla Tortelli (Rhea Perlman) – Cheers
    6. The Ladies of “Friends”
    7. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) – Game of Thrones
    8. Xena (Lucy Lawless) – Xena: Warrior Princess
    9. Roseanne Conner (Roseanne Barr) – Roseanne
    10. Samantha Stephens (Elizabeth Montgomery) – Bewitched

This was from the top of the head. I know there will be changes, but I would love to see who everyone else would put. I was close to adding Farrah Fawcett for Charlie’s Angels, although she was only on for 1 season.

The most complex, interesting, fascinating female character ever.

    Honorable mention:

I love female characters so much more than male characters, so I could list like 100, but these two just stand out for me. Exceptional.

These are the only two correct answers to this query :

Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!

So many great female performances I don’t even know where to begin… but, this all depends on what you want “iconic” to mean.

For instance, critics (deservedly) praise Carrie Coon’s performance in The Leftovers as Nora as one of the greatest performances on TV in the past decade. There has also been critical acclaim for Tatiana Maslany on Orphan Black (she carried that show on her back) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge on Fleabag and Regina King in everything she does (we love to see it) and the list goes on for acclaimed performances. But, I wouldn’t say that the general public (aka a random person you asked on the streets) would necessarily be aware of those performances/shows.

Then, you also get famous and popular performances that actresses basically become known for. For instance, you can’t think of Buffy without Sarah Michelle Gellar, Daenerys Targaryen without Emilia Clarke, Olivia Pope without Kerry Washington, etc.

Basically, making a list is impossible and the answer to this question is that gif of Saoirse Ronan in Little Women going “Women!”

Daenerys Targaryen is an iconic character but the role is eh.

The only female performance on that show that truly fits the bill is, imo, Cersei.

And since the question is asking for the most iconic female roles:
