Finished. The series finale ended things well enough. Episode 7 was incredible for Toni Collette, and I’m happy to report that Juliette Binoche turned my initial impressions around pointedly in the final installments. All of this did nothing to change my mind on the Peterson trial or the man himself, but the ensemble was strong throughout, and I was readily invested in the tragic narrative from start to finish. Poor Kathleen. If Emmy voters actually watched the episodes in time, then I think it’ll have a strong reception with nominations next week.

2 Emmy nominations. Ouch. Deserved much better for its ensemble and techs, and in hindsight, I think it could have done more with a better scheduling placement from HBO. Even if late series are at a disadvantage now, this was really shortchanged with a May debut on HBO Max. Instead trash like “The Time Traveler’s Wife” gets slotted on prime real estate HBO Sunday nights to quickly tank and get cancelled. Hopefully audiences will discover this startling limited series over time and spread word-of-mouth. Congratulations to Colin Firth & Toni Collette regardless!
