Drama at the Emmys, Limited at Globes. Bloys confirmed the former already.
Thanks, I had no idea.

Those shots in total must contribute to like 10% of the season’s airtime and they are completely filler. I hate when film/television assumes this role of doubling as a touristic promotion.

but these scenes had total connection with what was happening

December 12, 2022 at 1:59 pm #1205191591With all due respect, but are we sure it was Casey Bloys who confirmed White Lotus in Drama at the Emmys? As written in the article, it sounds to me like the journalist making an educated guess based on Emmys rules. Unless there’s another source that I haven’t found.

December 12, 2022 at 2:11 pm #1205191612Absolutely LOVED this last episode especially compared to last season’s finale. Coolidge was soooo good, even better than season one: the Emmy will be between her and Nash. Honestly I wouldn’t mind a second sweep for this show, it was so good and definitely better than the first season (which I did not expect at all).

I was going to say this lol. It definitely hasn’t been confirmed to be going drama. If anything, I think it’s staying limited — the Emmys knew Coolidge was returning before this past years nominations so there’s no reason why they’d object all of a sudden now.

Since you’re playing troubleshooter, this is the same situation that “AHS” went through when Jessica Lange returned for a season and the categorization changed at the Emmys from limited to drama. That would establish the precedent in a similar situation here with a recurring character returning for a season, making an anthology go drama. I was going by that Deadline article, so yes, the Emmys will need to make the official call next year. I think Bloys will opt for Drama, and with S3 coming and Britton possibly returning, it will become glaring to continue calling this an anthology series when it isn’t.

Bloys isn’t going to opt for drama when HBO will already have Succession, The Last of Us and House of the Dragon there. The only way it doesn’t go limited is if the Emmys object to its placement there. However, last year they put it in limited despite knowing that Coolidge was returning — they said something along the lines of her not being the lead or something so they ruled it an anthology.
This “Bloys is pushing it in drama” narrative is only a thing because the writer for deadline wrote it after this years Emmys but it was clearly speculation on his end and not actual confirmation or anything from Bloys.

It’s not limited or anthology if recurring characters continue occurring in future seasons. Last season was a different case when the first was intended as a standalone. It’s disingenuous for HBO to continue in that approach when it’s a drama. Other dramas being on HBO’s campaign roster isn’t relevant. The Emmys will make the call, not you or anyone else. I just happen to think that they will go Drama, and the Deadline article was worded in such a way to lead to differing interpretations.
