It’s not limited or anthology if recurring characters continue occurring in future seasons. Last season was a different case when the first was intended as a standalone. It’s disingenuous for HBO to continue in that approach when it’s a drama. Other dramas being on HBO’s campaign roster isn’t relevant. The Emmys will make the call, not you or anyone else. I just happen to think that they will go Drama, and the Deadline article was worded in such a way to lead to differing interpretations.
What I’m saying is that the Emmys literally already made the call last season lol. They placed it in limited when it was already a known thing that it was renewed for season 2 and Coolidge was coming back.
I’m not trying to make the call lol, I’m just following what the Emmys already called themselves!

Her buzz rivals Coolidge and Plaza’s — I’d actually go as far to say she might have more buzz than the latter despite not being nominated for GG yesterday. Twitter just went nuts for her big scene in the finale, and she’s been viewed more as a find whereas Plaza is already well known.
Emmy voters also won’t see her as some freeform actor lol. I doubt many of them have even seen or know of The Bold Type and it’s not like Daddario was held back by her lack of prestige last year before being on TWL.

I think a new decision will be made next year.

ReplyCopy URLDecember 16, 2022 at 4:57 pm #1205198306The way I can’t stop thinking about Meghann Fahy’s performance in this, specifically the beach scene in the finale. This might end up being the most I stan for a performance since Keri Russell in The Americans lol.
“You don’t have to know everything to love someone.” Whew.

Connie Britton may return in ‘THE WHITE LOTUS’ season 3.
“Mike White wanted me to be in the second season, and there was an idea that I loved for the character. Our intention is to do it in the third season.”

But that’s not how the emmy’s work. The White Lotus was made and submitted to the Emmy’s as a limited series because that is how it was made, and THAT season did not have any recurring characters from previous seasons because there were no previous seasons. Season 2 is the first season to break the recurring character rule, so it will be the first season forced into the drama category. Downton Abbey’s second season was already airing in England when the first season swept the emmy’s in the limited categories, then got forced into drama for the second season. AHS did ONE season with a recurring character and they were forced into drama. I don’t think it’s really up for anyone to decide (unless HBO petitions for an exemption, which they could do but I can’t see it succeeding when the two examples I gave couldn’t do it), it just is the rule. Emmy voters don’t decide where to place something like the oscars, before they ever see a ballot shows are submitted and accepted or rejected based on rules.
