Of course Renata’s husband would end up being a total shit lol. I figured that it would be too easy for Nicky to just end up happily ever after with Sally. Nice that he found someone all the same. Griffin Dunne was great, as always. I can already tell that Mandy Moore will wreck me this season. I’m not ready, Rebecca! Deja and Malik’s scenes were fine, I guess, but it didn’t mesh with the more interesting main storyline. That should have been the sole focus. But whew, the look on Randall’s face in the previews next week? Dad’s not amused!

AMAZING episode. Milo was my MVP this time but now I have another question I need an answer to like now: how does the boss become the husband for Kate?! It’s such a weird pairing and as much as I hate Toby I hate this dude more

The “four fathers” theme was done well. I’m glad they’re still finding things for Milo to do, and next week looks like an excellent showcase for him. I wonder if young Nicky will be at the funeral, and their awful father wasn’t in the previews. Losing young Kevin in the movie theater had just the right impact without becoming too overwrought. Randall’s freak-out over Deja was great. Brown excels with dramedic material like this. Kevin’s scenes with Madison were fine. I’m hanging on to what Fogelman said last season that Kevin’s great love story will be with his kids, and he won’t necessarily find a soulmate (which was emphasized with the triangle story with Toby). But bringing back Jennifer Morrison, ugh. Let’s all just agree that Sophie is his person and stop with the exes’ parade, please? As for Toby, I think this will be the toughest to sell, b/c the Kate/Toby pairing was built up to such a degree on the series prior, and now it’ll be torn down by the finale. The Brit guy feels like an intrusion, so the writing will have to do wonders to bring the audience around to him. Future Jack’s scenes always intrigue me b/c of their vagueness. I was expecting his wife to be pregnant, but these scenes could have bee before or after that. And the smoker? All the foreshadowing with “how can you keep this old smoker that reminds you of the day your parents’ marriage blew up?” kept me curious, at least. Not here for Crockpot 2.0 though. Let’s be better than that lol. Otherwise a momentum-building episode.

This is probably the last one big showcase Milo gets on this show and I hope he delivers.

In recent years Ventimiglia proved himself a solid supporting player but until the end of the Vietnam’s arc in season 3 he was a perfect lead and even if Sterling K. Brown maybe is the best actor, I often found Milo performance more consistent.

Looks like it. Hopefully Milo nails it tonight. I’m also curious how Nicky will be addressed, as well as their awful father.

Ventimiglia deserved the Emmy win for S2.

Milo shined tonight in a strong showcase episode. Get that Emmy nod! Also was great getting to see Camyrn Manheim again in a prominent role. “Don’t let me keep you.” Just wow. The only downside to the episode was what I figured would happen based on the previews. This was the point in the narrative where Jack and Nicky were on the outs, so while everyone was on edge about their abusive father returning to the funeral, not a single mention was given about her other son that should have had the opportunity to attend his mother’s funeral.

Holy crap, Milo Ventimiglia was just brilliant tonight. He better damn well get another Emmy nom. That final scene wrecked me!

Guys, as someone who hasn’t been able to see these episodes yet (Australian distribution is bad) – someone from NBC (I think)  indicated Milo might be submitted in supporting not lead this year, does that seem right from what you’ve seen?

While today’s episode was a Jack showcase through & through, I believe he’s been a supporting character since the end of season 3 and there hasn’t really been an urgency in the storylines to necessarily bring back Jack front & center like before. Moreover, with what’s supposedly going to be a Rebecca-forward season alongwith the lead up to last season’s Kate & Toby related cliffhanger, Milo Ventimiglia should ideally go supporting. Good thing he already has an Emmy tape, he was sublime in today’s episode.

FYC: "This Is Us", "The Good Fight", "Severance" & "Sex Education" in all categories.

Juliette Lewis ("Yellowjackets "), Mandy Moore ("This Is Us"), Kavyan Novak ("What We Do In The Shadows "), Edie Falco ("Impeachment: American Crime Story"), Drew Tarver & Heléne Yorke ("The Other Two")
