Since all awards have a thread dedicated to it,makes sense to have a thread dedicated to AACTA Television Awards to be held in 2022,honoring the best television of 2021.

This is an interesting one because 2020 was the first time AACTA International Awards were given out in television. It’s hard to predict what may appear here. There will be the token Australian nominees from US or British series (2020 – Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett), the Australian production (Mystery Road) and then series that have been big down under (The Queen’s Gambit, Schitt’s Creek).

I suspect Ted Lasso will make it this time as it’s become bigger down under and then we will perhaps see Mare of Easttown, The Handmaid’s Tale and The White Lotus.

Mystery Road didn’t run this year, but I would say the local show is probably The Newsreader. The industry seemed fairly obsessed with it and they’ll have recency bias, plus Torv has an international profile so that seems quite reasonable.

I can Sarah (who has history with AACTA) getting in and not Succession,  I always get the impression Foxtel try and bury it with the Murdoch connections.

FlixPatrol has the Serpent doing well and I can see them going for Jenna Coleman because of The Cry a few years back.

Would agree Mare and Handmaid’s are locks. I think Moss might even be ahead of Kate, she is very well loved here and has done quite a few things locally.

I’m not sure with Ted Lasso, but that might be my circle. I can also see Brooklyn Nine Nine getting in, it’s disproportionately popular here.

I think it’s the calendar year, the local awards have Total Control Season 2 on their FYC and it won’t finish until a few days before Christmas.

Should be noted that as a general rule Australians tend to skew a bit more Brit

    – The White Lotus Spoilers: The Handmaid’s Tale, Maid, The Serpent

I don’t think there is a hope in hell that The Handmaid’s Tale misses out. It’s very popular and easily the most prestige show to run on free to air.

If I Google Trends Nine Perfect Strangers it was WAY more popular here than anywhere else,  It’s also not eligible for the domestic award as per their FYC site (I don’t think it had any local funding).

I think it gets in somewhere. Also, Kidman is Vice President of AACTA, soo…. If they’re judicious, they nominate Asher Keddie instead

Yeah, I don’t think the opinion even by the general public here has been the same as I’ve seen it elsewhere. Australians do tend to be a bit more OK with the not-too-subtle.

I think Reservation Dogs could also do well, there’s a bit of Taika bleed from New Zealand and shows/movies tackling indigenous issues of any kind do quite well here.

Local nominees here, international is January to align with BAFTA etc I believe

Lots of The Newsreader (Australia’s answer to TMS lol) They never go that all-in on a cast, although there weren’t that many options this year.
