I don’t think the Murdoch stuff has any bearing on Australian audiences. The biggest issue is viewership. Season 1-2 are only available on Foxtel (you couldn’t make this up) and I don’t know anyone who pays for Foxtel tbh. Season 3 is available on free streaming. I think it’s the Snook of it all which can hook voters.

It’s still on Binge/Foxtel Now. Older people tend to have Foxtel sometimes. It’s more that they don’t go out of their way to promote it like they have previous big Sunday night dramas and the ratings are really bad and there is definitely not the love fest like in the US (ratings were like sub 50K for Succession) and they type of people who would want to watch this are the same people that boycott Foxtel and are probably torrenting it.

But that said White Lotus and Mare are also Foxtel, at least Mare had better ratings.

    Kate Winslet won the AACTA.

This has been reported  but it’s not on their website? It’s a public holiday here today and supposed to be announced tomorrow (in about 14 hours).

Certainly possible a press release or something has gone out.  It was just going to be a virtual announcement anyway.

Tbh I’m kind of surprised Winslet beat Snook. I thought home bias will be in full form this year (aka Nicole Kidman for Nine Perfect Strangers)

If Succession doesn’t also get in I dare say there is a specific Australian bias against it because of the Murdoch thing as I’ve noted here before. Plus the ratings for it are very bad (ie like 40000 with streaming) it would have to be heavily favored by industry over the general public.

Well with the knowledge that Succession has won,I think Snook’s loss is both another industry indication of Winslet’s passion being massively undeniable and a sign of Snook being weaker.

Than Winslet? Yeah, probably. But realistically they’re not competing with each other at US awards anyway.

Bartlett winning an AACTA is good for him career wise here I think.

    (A) I think it’s just that Winslet is too much of an undeniable choice that even the home advantage did not help Snook. She would have most likely been the runner up. That being said, it does not bode well for her if she is to defeat Julia Garner. Or it could also be that it isn’t a fair analysis cause Winslet’s passion>>>Garner’s.

    (B) Bartlett winning here is superb. It will give him a bonus for SAG because AACTA has an actual overlap with SAG, The Television Academy and AMPAS. Shows that he does have passion.

Snook has also lost five domestic AACTAs so didn’t necessarily have form here.
