Just watched this and curious to hear other people’s thoughts.
Personally I wish it had just been a normal TV movie as I found all the false starts (I had about 6) really irritating and also meant that the ending felt really abrupt as I kind of lost a sense of where we were in the supposed arc. I especially say this because I actually found what I did watch really enjoyable and pretty hilarious. What is was though was a great showcase for the entire cast, especially Hamm, Radcliffe and Burgess who are all, delightfully, going to fill out my personal Emmys in that supporting category.
I might try watching it again soon and only picking the options that I now know don’t lead nowhere so I get a clearer story.
Movie Grade: B
Movie MVP: Jon Hamm(PS: Wish one of the options had been to burn that bloody purple backpack)

MVP- Burgess

I know Supporting Actor is pretty open, but I’m still not sure it could land more than one nomination in the same category.

ReplyCopy URLMay 12, 2020 at 7:19 pm #1203478875Though I saw Amy Sedaris in the credits and now I HAVE to go back and try to hunt down the path Mimi’s on because she is just TOO damn funny in this show.
I haven’t watched since season 3, but I thought Amy Sedaris was always the worst character on the show. Her constant screaming annoyed the shit out of me.
ReplyCopy URLMay 12, 2020 at 10:34 pm #1203479029I believe this worked more than Bandersnatch cause the format really added to the comedy of the piece. With Bandersnatch I felt endless as things ended in misery. With this show and it’s wildness the comedic turns really worked.
I went through it twice already and there were some really funny “ends”.
ReplyCopy URLMay 13, 2020 at 12:13 am #1203479061It just occurred to me that the interactive categories are usually pretty barren so Kimmy Schmidt will likely soon be an Emmy-winning show regardless of how it does at the main ceremony
ReplyCopy URLMay 13, 2020 at 5:03 am #1203479178When Kimmy is on hold calling Donna Maria, make sure to press 3 and Keep Listening. Two words: Taco Snake. And Kemper’s pained facial expressions all throughout a demented rendition of 12 Days of Christmas are everything. Emmy justice for Kemper!
Other than that, yea, this should have been just a regular movie. I agree with forwardswill. The runaround with all the options was a bit irritating and really took me out of the quick comedy pace of the plot. And so by the time the ending came, i literally thought the story was not even at half point.. I was also expecting some Lost-style twist after Kimmy found the second bunker, but since it was just one standalone episode, i guess they needed a clean finite ending.
Titus’ cover of “Free Bird” was bonkers, surreal and absolutely blissful. They should put it on iTunes.
