I think the potential take-away for these in terms of the Emmys is that this is a year where people have still watched a lot of TV but, beyond a few key shows, we aren’t all watching the same thing.

There are some nice surprises (Dominique Jackson, Jane Levy, Martin Freeman, two PEN15 episodes, Bly Manor), but in general these nominations are bad and… humm… suspicious? The fandoms obviously came thru for shows like Love, Victor, Star Trek: Discovery, The Falcon and the Winter Shit, The Alienist, and others. And of course, shows like Bridgerton, Lovecraft Country and Mandalorian got multiple noms even tho they are trashed here in a daily basis, so as Love, Victor and TFATWS. And yeah, I don’t think I can name 5 users who talked about either Discovery or The Alienist. It only gets worse when you see that some shows (and performances) that are watched and loved around here (like TUR, This is Us, P-Valley, Mythic Quest, For All Mankind, We Are Who We Are, O-T Fagbenle, Alan Tudyk) got close to nothing. Anyway, it’s not that surprising since last year proved that this system is more than broken. And PLEASE, can we finally do the forum awards now that these are out?

I feel like some stuff that is “watched and loved” is just stuff we discuss a lot because there is potential for nominations.

And there are obviously a lot of quiet users who probably read a lot more than they post, we don’t know what everyone feels the most passionate about (with a few exceptions) but I will say the Bridgerton noms are weird like there are clearly some people who like this show more than they admit here or else it wouldn’t have gotten into ensemble.

And I agree with Riley that these don’t look like Emmy predictions but there are also some nominations that made me go: Really?
Like 4 episodes of The Crown just feels like lazy voting. A lot of people here like it but come on there was other great stuff too. And there are plenty of people who don’t want SNL people to win yet here they are 2 each in supporting, the 2 who are up in the odds. Also feels like lazy voting. Maybe that’s also just my bias against SNL.

ANYWAYS. FYC: Olly Alexander and Keeley Hawes.

You say this but I doubt it was because that many people filled their entire ballot with episodes of the show. I imagine it was more that the majority voted for at least one episode and everyone had a different favourite.

Regardless of the reason for it, our nominations tend to match up with the Emmys, so the surprises here might be foreshadowing a poor predictions score.

I don’t think they actually do. In 2020, here was the crossover between the nominations for the Gold Derby Awards and the Emmys.

    Drama Series: 5/8

    Drama Actress: 5/6

    Drama Actor: 4/6

    Drama Supporting Actress: 5/8

    Drama Supporting Actor: 3/8

    Drama Guest Actress: 4/6

    Drama Guest Actor: 3/6

    Comedy Series: 6/8

    Comedy Actress: 4/6

    Comedy Actor: 3/6

    Comedy Supporting Actress: 5/8

    Comedy Supporting Actor: 5/8

    Comedy Guest Actor: 4/6

    Comedy Guest Actress: 5/6

    Limited Series: 4/5

    Limited Actress: 5/5

    Limited Actor: 4/5

    Limited Supporting Actress: 2/6

    Limited Supporting Actor: 3/6

There certainly is crossover for obvious reasons, but it’s nowhere near enough to say one’s predictions are wrong if they have some differences from the Gold Derby awards.

    Very possible yeah.

Well my choice for the win is now a Crown episode so they got me.

    Winslet outsold both of these.
