I didn’t know how I feel after watching the premiere, so I gave the second episode a chance and it doesn’t seem like my type of series. I think I’ll wait for the season to end and then decide if I’m continuing. I’ve started a new thing of not forcing myself to watch everything, often because I find myself watching something just for the sake of doing it.September 24, 2020 at 2:10 pm #1203732321
I really liked the second one. It’s a slow-paced coming of age. Well written, well directed, and a great ost/store. It’s a solid show.October 17, 2020 at 8:30 pm #1203785340
No one is watching? I quite like what I’m seeing, episode 4 was amazing.October 17, 2020 at 10:22 pm #1203785432
I will start watching this soon!October 17, 2020 at 11:45 pm #1203785457
I’ve enjoyed the first two episodes quite a lot. Finally something that does feel different from the rest of its ‘competition”.October 18, 2020 at 1:52 pm #1203786921
I’m loving this show.
I feel like its going to be shut down on the awards circuit. But it’s a great show. Really different from everything on TV rn.October 18, 2020 at 2:43 pm #1203787004
Realized I haven’t been posting, but I’ve found this show to be really cool and different. I’m not sold on Jack Dylan Grazer yet, but all the adults are fantastic. Episode 4 was great in particular.October 20, 2020 at 12:24 am #1203790500
I’ve really been enjoying this series. For me, it has been such a treat to have Luca direct every episode!
I think the cast is stellar, especially it’s young leads. I think Jack Dylan Grazer is so impressive. He was the standout in the film Shazam and this is such a 180 for him as a young actor. Plus it’s refreshing to actually have a teenager play a teenager on a tv series. The score and cinematography are gorgeous as well. And of course Chloe Sevigny always delivers and is so intriguing to watch.
Awards-wise, I know this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. I could see the Golden Globes embracing it though with surprise noms in Drama Series and Actor and maybe Supporting Actress. It is after all an international production plus an HBO series! At the same time, wouldn’t be surprised if it was ignored altogether.October 20, 2020 at 3:16 am #1203790580
There is virtually no buzz around this show, but I have been really enjoying it and think it is definitely HBO’s best scripted offering in this back half of 2020 so far. Once the show settled into its tone, it bought the character development to the forefront and the directorial choices and overwhelming tone of the show became second nature. I know this is a miniseries and the show hasn’t been highly viewed, but I could easily see this becoming a traditional drama series depending on how this season wraps up. Luca Guadagnino’s direction has only become more assured, and the fourth episode was probably the series highlight. The performances have been very good. Jack Dylan Grazer is often walking a tightrope and he usually succeeds, and given that this is an unlikeable and challenging role, and given what he is capable of in more mainstream fare, it is exciting to see him flex his creative muscles and prove that he could be a talent that sticks around. I think Jordan Kristine Seamon is electric. There is something about her eyes that is so expressive and heartbreaking, and she sells every inch of her story. The supporting cast has all been very good and in particular, I’m finding Chloe Sevigny to be an icy delight and Tom Mercier to be a really endearing presence. It has definitely been a nice early fall treat, even if the conversation around it has been a bit muted.October 20, 2020 at 4:33 am #1203790621
I’m in love with this show. One of the best shows of this season so far.October 20, 2020 at 6:29 am #1203790723
I did not know that the set was all built in Italy. So impressive.October 20, 2020 at 10:13 am #1203791333
Fingers crossed for Chloe Sevigny in this upcoming awards season!!!
Chloë Sevigny in “The Girl From Plainville” and “Russian Doll”October 21, 2020 at 10:34 pm #1203795700
I think it’s a miniseries.October 26, 2020 at 10:32 pm #1203804615
Damn, I hope the HFPA watched this and gives it a boost. Episode 7 was spectacular. Chloe Sevingy and Jordan Kristine Seamon are win-worthy.Not now
