Her majesty rightfully recommending the best comedy on television right now (as she should).

Watched ‘Squid Game’ and Clickbait’ this week and enjoyed both.

‘Squid Game’ was a wild ride and I almost stopped walking due to the violence – turned my head away many times. Worth the journey, though. Much better than I expected since it started out slow and one of the main characters was so annoying. I recommend giving it a shot.

‘Clickbait’ was another nice surprise. Totally got engaged in the mystery – and just when I thought I knew who killed Nick. I really liked the titles of the episodes – overall, I think it’s worth a view.

    Life is a thin thread.
    We hang on tightly knowing
    it will snap one day.

“Controlling Britney Spears” (2021): This installment felt much more substantial than “Framing Britney Spears,” though they’re the same hourlong-ish length and play like extended CNN news segments. I know there’s shooting in real-time, but I would have combined the two for maximum effect. Suffice it to say, Britney’s conservatorship is far worse and more sinister then we were let to believe. Super-topical with Jamie Spears just being suspended from being conservator yesterday! It’ll be interesting to compare this with Netflix’s “Britney vs. Spears” and see which one is better. Also, what will the Emmys do with them? This episode can totally be nominated, BTW. It reminds me of the famed Hulu/Netflix battle of the Fyre Festivals in the same year: “Fyre Fraud” was on Hulu and nominated for Writing in a Nonfiction Program, while Netflix’s “FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened” was the greater-received of the two, nominated for four Emmys, including Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Directing. I want that battle again for Britney! The former is far more critically acclaimed than the latter, so both might not happen, or voters will find Metacritic irrelevant and nominate them both anyways. Definitely worth watching regardless. The reporting from The New York Times is top-notch.

The West Wing – 5 episodes in and now I know why this show was such an Emmy juggernaut. Allison Janney and John Spencer are absolutely killing it! Also was legit shocked when I saw Kathryn Joosten, Elisabeth Moss and Nick Offerman in small appearances.

FYC: Succession, Severance, Hacks & The White Lotus for the win!

Started watching Gentleman Jack last week and what a delightful acting masterclass does Suranne Jones bring to this show! I’m only three episodes in and as a viewer I feel like I already know and trust Anne Lister as a character and I’m gripped enough too really speed my way through the remaining episodes in all of the internal conflict a character with such a strong sense of identity has.

Sally Wainwright really is one of the most talented writers working today. Her skill at world building and character development to really draw you into the story as the viewer from day one on really each and every one of her projects is almost unmatched.

FYC: Better Call Saul and The Good Fight in all categories including Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

Don’t set season 2 up! 💀 S1 is a masterpiece but the second one is still quite good.

Friday Night Lights! I went in thinking it was going to be basic and quaint, but it is very well-done and sophisticated!

Connie Britton should have at least an Emmy for the role of Tami. She was just that good.
