Just watched “Marine One” (Homeland season one finale) and holy cow what an episode! Absolutely amazing end to an absolutely amazing season of TV! One of my favorites I’ve ever watched! Just brilliant! I understand its acclaim and Drama Series win cuz just wow.

I actually thought about it! All of your posts are making me want to watch it.

With a great aesthetic, a hypnotic score and overall mesmerizing atmosphere, I was immediately immersed into the show. The half hour format also worked very well and played a part in always keeping me captivated.
Roberts, James, Cannavale and White all delivered great performances that deserved Emmy nominations, as well as Sam Esmail in directing and writing. I think it’s his best work.
Severance was often compared to it, and while I enjoyed it very much, I think Homecoming s1 is probably better. Although Severance played the mystery aspect better, as you can mostly guess what’s behind “Homecoming” mid season.
I recommend for people who liked Severance to check it out.

I’m really intrigued by the upcoming Metropolis. I hope Esmail combines the precision and focus of Homecoming with the scope of the ambitious but ultimately messy Mr Robot.

March 22, 2023 at 2:16 pm #1205360316Recent binges (which also include Homecoming lol):
Homecoming (2018): This was a pretty easy and breezy binge. I watched the pilot some years ago but didn’t get into it, but whew did the rest of it pick up when I finally started it back up. Julia definitely gives her best performance here, she is quite mesmerizing and I loved watching every second of her. Stephan James is also a well-matched and spectacular co-lead. Jeremy Allen White and Marianne Jean-Baptiste are pretty great guest performers on their short term roles as well. The direction and cinematography/aspect changes are soooo good and beautiful to look at. When it shifts permanently from 2018 to 2022 *chef’s kiss*. The ending scene is also such a perfect note to end on I refuse to watch s2 (sorry Hong Chau and Janelle Monáe).
Hannibal (2013): The way I plowed through this in a week is probably not healthy lmao. I watched an episode here and there when it was on, but I decided to start it and whew the massive art. Mads and Hugh are such great leads, and the rest of the cast is spectacular (save for, an unpopular opinion, Richard Armitage, he was taking me out of the final arc so much I couldn’t take him seriously). Seasons ranking: 2 > 1 > 3. Season two’s finale was my favorite episode of the whole show, the utter chaos it erupted in with everyone getting nearly butchered *chef’s kiss*. That episode was DIRECTION. In terms of cast: Mikkelsen > Dancy > Dhavernas / Anderson (Dhavernas had the more consistent material but Anderson in s3 had the higher peaks whereas she was reduced to a guest role before so I put them on equal level) > Fishbourne > Rutina > Torres > Esparza > Park > Rohl > Lara > Isabelle > Arianda > Armitage
Poker House (2023): Watched this the other day in one night lol. The direction (especially Lyonne’s) and Natasha Lyonne’s performance are so good. I felt like I was watching Columbo or Monk again. Had some funny moments like those shows but was mostly dramatic. I’ll put it in comedy in my personals though because it’s barren there lmao. Love the set-up for the second season and I can’t wait for more. I’ve been missing these mystery of the week shows.
Currently binging 9-1-1 on season five too, Angela Bassett and Kenneth Choi, where are your Emmy noms?!

These two are so great and under seen. I recomend everyone to give both a chance

March 22, 2023 at 8:38 pm #1205360653“The Glory”, the ending was so satisfying! I just skipped the “Baker and the Beauty”, the male lead is quite annoying.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 23, 2023 at 5:51 pm #1205361814“Modern Warfare” was amazing. 😭 My favorite episode of Community thus far. One of the greatest episodes of TV ever! I love how it wears its style on its sleeve. It’s so heavily influenced by action and post-apocalyptic film and TV and it feels like an homage rather than a rehash. Just wonderful. And the plot development ugh!

March 28, 2023 at 10:32 am #1205367145Buffy s06 – always heard a lot of criticism about this season but when I finished it became one of my Buffy favorites! It have some low moments but nothing close to season 4 and the highs are really really great. Obviously the epic ‘Once More, with the Feeling’ but it also had a lot of stand out episodes and I was a huge fan of Willow and Buffy’s individual plots. Final season time!

Season 4 is by far the worst except ironically for the best episode of the lot imo in Hush. It’s pretty much anything that involves Riley that is awful and funny enough the episode in 6 that’s the worst is when Riley shows up. I agree overall 6 is good with 3/4 low point episodes
Enjoy the final season and the young Nathan Fillion
