Allow only Casting Directors to vote for the Casting award.

I don’t know how I feel about TV Movie, mostly because I feel like we’re on the precipice of old pre-existing contracts for theatrical to die out and that category to be competitive again.

Wow! I assumed that only casting directors voted for the casting award. Who can vote for the casting award?

Casting directors, directors and producers. Casting directors also vote for acting but I believe their numbers relative to the acting branch aren’t big enough to make a significant difference there.

Well, we’ll see if acting/writing/directing mange to have more than 0-1 noms for actual movies.

-All Variety categories presented in the Creative arts ceremony.
-Stop the unlimited ballot, people should vote for the exact same amount of nominees we’ll get based on submissions.
-Acting categories should have 6 nominees minimum with 8 at most
-Guest acting categories should be presenten in the main ceremony.

literally all of this (except I think six acting nominees is sufficient)

Interesting to think about this after the Artios nominations announced this week, presumably with only casting professionals voting – https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/casting-society-2022-artios-awards-nominations-1235243175/ – and the nominations aren’t *that* different from the Emmys, though there are more of them because of more categories. But most Emmy nominees also are Artios nominees. I think there’s just one big exception, which is that White Lotus won the Emmy but wasn’t even nominated for an Artios… Also Stranger things not nominated for an Artios.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 20, 2022 at 12:54 pm #1205127114On subject of re-thinking Guest, I think that performers whom fail to qualify for the 5% screentime in the Limited/Movie categories should be allowed to compete as Guest performers. Never thought this until Jessica Lange’s nominated for AHS Apocalypse, whom wasn’t eligible when the season was competing in Limited before moving to drama. Her inclusion there is one of the best in the category from the past few years (imo) and allowing Limited could allow for performers such as NPH (It’s a Sin) and Molly Shannon (The White Lotus whom have excellent material (certainly more than let’s say Don Cheadle, Margo Martindale) but aren’t competitive in their Limited supporting categories due to screentime and more prominent internal co-stars.
I love this idea.
