It was a three horse Netflix/HBO/Apple (well, Tad Lasso) actors race.
No young ingenues won – all actresses were 40+ (in fact, everyone was except Peters and O’Connor)
You can 100% get nominated for genre stuff but to get over the line to win is tough (none this year)
Netflix is a bit stronger than I thought.
They’re not ready to go there with a Disney acting win yet.
Winners were still uncomfortably white. (thank goodness for Michaela).September 19, 2021 at 8:30 pm #1204473117
Succession is sweeping in all categories next year. When they love a show and this show has no competition, they give it everything (see how The Crown went 7/7 + Guest Actress)September 19, 2021 at 8:31 pm #1204473126
There is no more narrative play
If MJ and Conan couldn’t win, i doubt voters care that much
Next year they’ll award more black performers to look redeemableSeptember 19, 2021 at 8:33 pm #1204473143
Also Evan Peters is coming for his Ryan Murphy murderer showSeptember 19, 2021 at 8:36 pm #1204473168
8/12 British winners and two UK set shows.September 19, 2021 at 8:38 pm #1204473184
Ted Lasso is a new actors branch favorite and is coming for SAG ensembleSeptember 19, 2021 at 8:40 pm #1204473199
Not a single POC winning any acting categories. (out of 12 categories)September 19, 2021 at 8:41 pm #1204473205
Unless the voting system changes, they’re probably going to reward few shows once again.
My bet: Succession, Ted Lasso + The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and 1/2 shows in Limited Series.September 19, 2021 at 8:43 pm #1204473218
Actors like to reward dramatic material. That’s why I was always so hesitant about Kathryn Hahn. Nicholson’s performance punches you right in the gut.September 19, 2021 at 8:43 pm #1204473220
Nominate minorities but don’t let them win
Oops did I go thereSeptember 19, 2021 at 8:43 pm #1204473228

Well, what prevented it from winning supporting races last year?September 19, 2021 at 8:45 pm #1204473241
Just because a show does well at the creative arts it doesn’t mean it’s going to win every single above the line award if other shows with lots of passion are also seen. First Fleabag winning series but losing supporting actress to Maisel, Succession winning series but both supporting categories and now The Queen’s Gambit winning series without any acting wins.
