But Martin Freeman, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Billy Bob Thornton, Jean Smart, etc. They all fit so perfectly in that universe.

Don’t forget Jessie Buckley! She was perfection in what was an otherwise underwhelming season of the show.

    Claire Danes in Homeland.
I feel in the hands of anyone else , the character would’ve turned turned into a caricature.

    It did in many regards.

I also haven’t seen anyone mention Fargo. That show was truly perfectly cast up until the last season where I thought they went wrong with Chris Rock. But Martin Freeman, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Billy Bob Thornton, Jean Smart, etc. They all fit so perfectly in that universe.

No mention of Bokeem Woodbine though? Hurts my soul.

Iconic? Literally no one watches that show. Look at the low imdb ratings for the latest season.

I think you are confusing it with a different show….

Dark . On Netflix, there is a German science fiction show. It’s comparable to Breaking Bad in my opinion, and the casting is what really sticks out. There are three time lines in this series, each 33 years apart, to briefly explain why casting was so important. If you watch the series, you’ll see how incredible it is that different actors are portraying each of them in various timelines.

Andrerw Scott as Moriarty in Sherlock was inspired.

Michael K. Williams was utterly iconic as Omar in The Wire

And of course Jon Hamm, and for degree of difficulty, all the Russian speaking Soviet characters on The Americans (Costa Ronin as Oleg, Lev Gorn as Arkady, Annet Mahendru as Nina).

Bill Hader and Barry in everything (2 babka)
The Great - Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and comedy writing and directing

Severance in drama series, writing, Adam Scott for best actor, Ben Stiller for drama directing, and the whole cast in supporting.

Gosh, I love the three of them so much. Matthew Rhys and Alison Wright were also perfectly cast (Keri Russell was already mentioned).

And I think people forget (now that Claire is so inextricably associated with Homeland) what an inspired casting that was.  At the time Claire Danes was best known for playing Angela Chase and Juliet.    Nobody would have figured her for an unstable, ass kicking CIA officer
