I gotta confess, I’m just making this thread cause I want to talk about HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us. However, there’s not much point of making a thread dedicated to that since there’s no clear sign of when it’ll come out, so I figured I’d make a spot to talk about all new shows, whether they’re gonna come out next season, have been officially announced, or are rumored to be released.
As for Last of Us, while some people here may not be interested in an adaptation of a video game, if it tackles the plot even half as well as the original, it’s gonna be astounding. While I don’t expect the new actors to top Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, if the new actors do justice to the characters of Joel and Ellie, they’re certainly going to be nominated and in the running for wins, as will the series.

They can stretch the first game in more than one season, I actually expect them to do that because there is a lot of material to adapt and they can even expand some stuff. And mostly only incels hate the sequel.

I’m guessing that HBO will only adapt the first game. I heard that they said they might feature some parts of the second game, but that was before it came out and the plot was met with such an enormous backlash.
Trying to adapt the sequel into a second season would be a very poor decision. The original’s story is widely agreed to be a masterpiece, while the sequel’s is just dark for the sake of it, resulting in an unfulfilling plot that detracts from the original. If HBO knows what they’re doing, they’ll steer far away from doing Part II.

I like to think of myself as liberal and progressive, but I can’t stand the sequel’s story. Not because of anything to do with gender or sexuality, but for the reasons that don’t have anything to do with that which I mentioned in my post above.
I won’t deny that there are hateful assholes who are panning the game for their own bigoted agenda, but there are many legitimate criticisms that it’s facing that shouldn’t be ignored.
I originally thought the backlash was more akin to something like The Force Awakens where it was a bunch of insecure douchebags who were upset by a strong female protagonist, but the story is actually very problematic and leaves you empty. Which is a shame because the first one had the greatest story in any video game ever.

I love psychological horror. I’m also curious about how Parasite miniseries be. My only wish is the series having an all Asian cast.

As far as I’m aware, HBO haven’t confirmed involvement with Sarah’s upcoming projects. “Other People’s Houses” is being produced for FOX, while “Sometimes I Lie” is being produced by FOX and WarnerBros with no network attached yet. It would be great to see her in an HBO show- I still wish they’d release “The Wonderful Maladys” online for us to see after all these years.

To each his own, but I found the story hypocritical and it just left me feeling empty. The original is extremely dark, but it still has moments of hope throughout.
I don’t mind the idea of the most controversial part, and think it could’ve been interesting, but I despised the execution. I’d go into a lot more detail if it wasn’t a public forum, and I don’t like to spoil stuff.
ReplyCopy URLI don’t play the game, I only know about it through film twitter, but Craig Mazin who’s writing the series has been incredibly complimentary and passionate about The Last of Us Part II. Don’t see why he would disregard source material he’s so clearly passionate about.
Yes, but the higher ups wanted the universal beloved story of the original for the adaptation, and now that the sequel’s story has been hit with so much controversy and backlash they may want to steer clear.
While not without its defenders, the sequel has hit a backlash among fans of the original on a level that brings the last season of Game of Thrones to mind.
Anyway, adapting the sequel is a discussion for another time, but it’s worth noting that the first game’s story is complete and fulfilling enough to work on its own, and the two games have very different feels at least when it comes to narrative.
I’d prefer to not really talk the sequel on here anymore, as the main reason why I first started talking about the adaptation is because the story got me depressed enough that I just wanted to talk about how I’m excited for the vastly superior original’s plot to be on TV.

– Fargo: been looking forward to this since the news broke out. Was a huge fan of the first three installments (2 > 1 > 3) and Jessie Buckley with that accent is to die for.
– The Undoing: trailer didn’t really grip me as much as I wanted it to, but it’s Kidman back with Kelley again.
– Ratched: cautiously excited about this one. Love the idea behind it as well as the cast, but I’ve kind of hated the last few projects Murphy’s put out.
– The North Water: the premise, two leads and writer/director have me super excited and intrigued.
– A Teacher: big fan of most FX productions and Kate Mara deserves good lead roles!
– Lisey’s Story: loved Jackie, so I’m excited to see what Larraín does with this. Also, that cast! Julianne Moore! Clive Owen! Joan freaking Allen!
– Made for Love: the premise sounds bonkers in the best way possible. Also, I’m so glad to see Milioti headlining her own show.
– Inventing Anna: Julia Garner in that role is everything.
Shows that haven’t started filming or haven’t announced any of its cast:
– The Last of Us: I’m not familiar with the video game but it sounds like the source material is unbelievable. The Chernobyl reunion is also enough to get me to watch it. Kaitlyn Dever and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for the leads, please!
– Gorilla and the Bird: there hasn’t been news on this in so long but the story sounds amazing. Whoever gets cast as the mother and son are prob shoo-ins for nominations (and maybe wins). Vallée back at HBO too!
– Crime Farm: one of Kidman’s many projects that she’s producing (I don’t think she’s starring in it). I’m mainly anticipating it because the premise sounds great and I want Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys in the two lead roles lol.
– Kevin Can F**k Himself: Annie Murphy deserves the world and this sounds great!
– Suspicion: Thurman and Emmerich has my mouth watering. Chris Long also directed the shit out of many The Americans episodes (including START)!
Basically all of my anticipated projects could be any of the shows Kidman has in production or development because they all sound great lol.

It really pisses me off that we were so close to getting Fargo this year. Also, I agree with your ranking of the seasons, but I’ll give the third credit. It’s my least favorite, but David Thewlis was my favorite villain.
I’m also team Nikolaj all the way (so long as he can do a good Texan accent). Unfortunately, Dever is too old to convincingly portray this role anymore, which is a shame as she would’ve been great in it, and she looks just like the character.
