I was doing some research on the Emmys this morning, and I was surprised the pilot for Lois and Clark: The Adventures of Superman got a directing nomination for its pilot.

Are there any other random nominations that were surprise to you guys?

The first PEN15 writing nomination (while very deserved) felt incredibly random on the day of.

FYC: The Bear (Ayo Edebiri) Industry (Marisa Abela) OMITB (Jayne Houdyshell) Physical (Rose Byrne) WWDITS (Natasia Demetriou)

Bronson Pinchoit from Perfect Strangers was another random nod considering the Emmys are snobs about those type of sitcoms

    From the last decade:

2011 – I was not following Emmy P/Ds by that time, but was all the love for The Kennedys expected?
2014 – Idk, maybe Fred Armisen for Portlandia?
2015 – Niecy Nash for Getting On

I remember when Aidy Bryant’s name was read out first in the comedy actress lineup two years ago for Shrill and I was like wtf. With all the discussions of possibilities in that weak field did anyone even predict her lol?

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I don’t remember Yellowjackets getting a lot of pre cursor love, so when it got major nominations last year I was surprised

It got WGA nominations and won a Critics Choice.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

She has a habit of being underpredicted.

I put it down to them watching a lot of Hulu. It aired right around Handmaid’s.

It’s also hilarious retrospectively but when Julia Garner was nominated for SAG for S2 I don’t think she was in the prediction centre

Although I loved that nomination, Laurie Metcalf for Getting On was a big surprise.
