    Ms. Pat in directing for a comedy series

    The multicam rule allow for multiple occasions of that happening
    Wtf was B Positive lol

    FYC:
    The HBO darlings everywhere (The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, Perry Mason, Somebody Somewhere, White House Plumbers, Love & Death);
    The Apple gang (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird);
    Poker Face, The Great, The Bear, Evil (especially Katja Herbers) and The Good Fight.

    Please! These gays, they're trying to murder me!

    Although I loved that nomination, Laurie Metcalf for Getting On was a big surprise.

    I agree that it was a surprise, but I don’t think it was that random as Niecy Nash got a nomination in the year before (she also got other two nods in the same year, so she was probably carried by the other two performances)

    Family Guy, Comedy Series (2009) was RANDOM.

    It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

    Family Guy, Comedy Series (2009) was RANDOM.

    How did that happen? Did they campaign for it?

    Yep. Since it’s revival in 2005, MacFarlene had been determined to have the show submit as a Comedy Series (as opposed to Animated) during his tenure as showrunner since the show is structure and rehearsed (i.e, table reads) like a multi-cam sitcom that just happens to animated.

    It’s nom in 2009 is the cumulation of that alongside the newly extended 6 nominee field.

    Bronson Pinchoit from Perfect Strangers was another random nod considering the Emmys are snobs about those type of sitcoms

    Not that shocking. Emmys didn’t become comedy snobbish until much much later. In the 80s, multicam sitcoms were the norm and Perfect Strangers got very good ratings, especially their first shorter season.

    But even I was shocked by the 1996 nomination for Jayne Meadows as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for the one season quickly canceled 13 episode sitcome High Society.

    I guess she was still high from West Wing, but Stockard Channing in Out of Practice? I wasn’t following the Emmys back then, but I don’t imagine it being a visible nomination coming. Weird.

    Unlimited ballot era was mostly just HOW hard they’d go for something and you’d get someone 8th billed who was just “there” instead of any actually solid 2nd billed performance.

    I thought about that nomination as well. It was truly only because she was Stockard Channing.

    And that was her last nomination, which is even weirder in retrospect. If she was such a namecheck, when The Good Wife was giving lots of guests, she should have gotten in.

    The ones that always come to mind first for me are Charles Durning in NCIS and Sharon Gless in Burn Notices for Guest Drama Actor and Actress, respectively. Both had careers as emmy darlings so it makes sense in retrospect, but in both cases they were the only ATL nominees those shows EVER got over multiple seasons.

    Stockard had a real moment a while back so yeah, that doesn’t surprise me because of timing.
