The early to mid 00s era was definitely the most interesting era of the Emmys imo
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2023 at 11:42 am #1205283917So this century, the ONLY drama/comedy whose sole nomination was for supporting was The Affair. Maura her power!
There’s also Constance Zimmer for “UnReal”. And if I’m not mistaken both Maura and Constance were nominated in the same year.

And the meltdowns when Margo Martindale was nominated for drinking tea and later won.
Everytime I remember that I crack a bit.

lead acting 8, comedy writing 3, comedy directing 1.

Tierney and Zimmer both being nominated in the last year there was a restricted ballot.
Hopefully 2023 better delivers excellence like that.

I am curious as to what a limited ballot throws in 2023 because we are in a very different era.

Especially in series as I don’t know if most voters have actually been filling in (or rather watching) even up to 8 shows this whole time. Will there be a sizable difference in what results are yielded? Will those last few slots go to smaller passion picks like Bad Sisters or Poker Face or high visibility tentpoles with industry apathy like House of the Dragon?

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2023 at 9:28 pm #1205284484I guess she was still high from West Wing, but Stockard Channing in Out of Practice? I wasn’t following the Emmys back then, but I don’t imagine it being a visible nomination coming. Weird.
2006 was a strange year because that was the first year of the new process of determining the lead actor and actress nominations for comedy and drama. I believe there were the ten top vote getters from the popular vote and their submissions were viewed by a panel and the nominees were determined from this panel based on rankings of their submissions. None of the Desperate Housewives made it in lead actress for season two. Season two was not well received, but Marcia Cross should have been nominated and won for that season, but the submission of “Next” for the top ten did not help her get into the final five nominees.
