What about Andre Braugher for “Man of a certain age”? He was remotely predicted?

Here’s another: Betty Garrett for ‘Becker’ (Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, 2003)

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

I guess it’s not exactly the most random Emmy nomination seeing as it has gone on to be one of the most acclaimed episodes of a genre show (arguably even any show) of all time but it’s still interesting to me how Buffy got into writing for “Hush” in 2000 seeing as not only did lone nominations rarely happen in writing in those days but also how the show didn’t make it in at the WGA for the episode nor was ever nominated above the line at the Emmys either prior or after that nod even though the fifth season was more acclaimed than the 4th (getting across the board TCA nominations) and had more Emmy friendly episodes.

It’s a very deserving nomination but one that even as a fan of the show I’m still surprised ever even happened.

I believe he was predicted. Braugher was an Emmy winner who got great notices in the show. I don’t remember it being a surprise. Being supporting, they are more likely to go for shows that aren’t often on Emmys main radar.

I was hoping that CCH Pounder would get nominated for the last season of The Shield. She would have made a great winner if nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Hmm, in the last 50 years the drama writing nominees for non-debut seasons, that never got into Series: Buffy, Wire, Homicide, BSG.

But Buffy is the only one that had just the 1 major nom, as the only major nom ever for a ‘netlet’ (wb/cw/upn).

Wire being a 2 time Writing nominee, Homicide WINNING Directing/Acting, and BSG doubling up on Writing/Directing.

Was Joan of Arcadia random at the time? It seems so out of sync with a lot of the other nominees of that period (it also appears to have vanished in to obscurity).

No, at the time Joan of Arcadia was not random at all. In fact, in its first season the series was both a critical success and a ratings success for CBS. Amber Tamblyn received rave reviews for her work and the show as a whole was well liked. It was very much on the radar at the time; sadly ratings fell quickly in season two and the show has all but been forgotten.

I’ve never understood why Lindsay Wagner not only got nominated but WON for The Bionic Woman, of all the series to air in the 1970’s that seems so random. If they were going to give it to a fantasy series I would have preferred Lynda Carter for Wonder Woman.

Yeah I remember liking it but have such vague memories of it now. I remember it being double billed locally with Showtime’s Dead Like Me (which worked really well as a combo) and them both being local hits that were cancelled stateside.

I’m too young to have watched it when it aired but I have older people in my life who were very fond of it who talk about it being kind of conceptually out there at the time?

    My theory

The episode she submitted for her Emmy win Wagner played two characters
